that your workmates maybe affected by your acts or omissions.

2. Switch off power at the main panel before making repairs or

alterations addition, put up a sign “Do not switch on”.

3. Assume that all circuits and conductors are live until proven to be
dead.

4. Ensure that earthing conductors are securely connected.

5. Make a study of the system before attempting any work on it.

6. Always use tools suitable for electrical work and wear proper

7. Live working should be avoided but for testing and fault finding.

8. When working in panels, use only one hand. Do not hold on any

Why are all the safety rules important?

1. Health and Safety is important because it protects the wellbeing

increase costs and reduce profitability.

2. A safe and healthy workplace not only protects workers from

injury and illness, it can also lower injury/illness costs, reduce
absenteeism and turnover, increase productivity and quality, and
raise employee morale. In other words, safety is good for
business.

Report of an accident

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on November 21, 2020, Employee #1 was

working as a foreman for an electrical contractor that was installing
panels, transformers, and lighting into a newly-constructed single-story
commercial building in Ocho Rios, St. Ann. At the time of the accident,
he was completing the installation of electrical panels in the building's
electrical meter room. Employee #1 was apparently working alone and
he was discovered by coworkers on the ground in the panel room, next
to a 480-volt pull panel from which the cover had been removed. The
coworkers contacted Emergency Services. One of the firemen later
stated that the 480-volt pull panel was energized and that one
energized conductor was hanging loose in the panel. Employee #1 was
transported to the St. Ann Bay’s Hospital, where he was pronounced
dead at 4:55 p.m. The County of Jamaica Coroner's report listed the
cause of death as electrocution, from contact with energized electrical
equipment due to the lack of proper work procedures, safeguards, and
barriers, and the lack of personal protective equipment. The employer
was cited for a violation, regulatory, of T8CCR 342(a), for failing to
report a serious accident; for a violation, general, of T8CCR 1509(b), for
the lack of a code of safe practices for electrical work; and an accident-
related violation, serious, of T8CCR 2320.2(a), for work on energized
equipment without proper procedures.

Executive Summary

Our plan is to open a construction business that will sell our service to
construct a variety of buildings, apartment, infrastructure,
developments, properties, facilities, housing, path, pavement, roads,
motorway and other types of construction projects. Our team has the
physical strength and endurance expertise to successfully grow this
business. Our business is located at 14 Bravo Street, St. Ann’s Bay,
Jamaica. Our company has substantial experience in the high-end
residential market. We have also delivered several upscale multi-unit
housing developments in St. Ann and Montego Bay. Furthermore, we
have successfully completed a number of projects for commercial
clients, including Coldwell Banker Jamaica Realty, Property Shop
Jamaica, Century21 Heave-Ho Properties, Sagicor Property Services and
etc. We understand the needs of our clients and the importance of
quality, scheduling and cost control. While we have been in the home
construction business for some time, it was in months that we decided
to launch Mountain Home Construction. Specifically, during this time,
we met with a former friend and fellow independent construction
company owner in Fort St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann who has had tremendous
success. After discussing the business at length, we clearly understood
that a similar business would enjoy significant success in St. Ann’s Bay.

13
ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT

We will be able to provide clients with the following services:

 New Home Construction: New home projects will be entirely

managed, including setting a schedule, budget, and requirements
with the client and architect, supplying material, labor, and
equipment, hiring subcontractors as necessary, assuring quality of
all work, and expediting the process of licenses and permits.
Sometimes pre-design services will be offered to give advice
during the design phase of the home.

 Home Additions: Smaller projects to add additional floors, rooms,

patios, porches, etc. to existing homes will be offered. The process
will be similar to that of new homes, although the time involved,
budgets, and scope will be smaller.

 Home Renovations: Interior and exterior improvements to

existing homes, such as remodeling, adding new fixtures or
decorative elements, and changing room layout will be offered.

 Homeowner Information Sessions: Webinars be offered to

present topics such as how to prepare before seeking a
contractor, new and standard home construction practices,
renovation projects, and planning additions to your home.

14
Home construction is a relatively standardized practice. Firms providing

 Rough HVAC

Many of these steps, such as framing, roofing, plumbing, electrical, etc.

are generally undertaken by subcontractors specializing in those areas.

15
Mountain Home Construction will serve individuals building their own
homes, architects, and real estate development companies in St. Ann’s
Bay and the immediately surrounding area within a 20 mile radius.

The area we serve is suburban, with 80% of residents being

homeowners and 20% being renters.

Customer Segmentation
The Company will primarily target the following three customer
segments:

home they want to live in, and interested in high quality at the
best possible price.

2. Architects: Architects may use our services beginning in the

design phase, when we can offer real world feedback on the costs
of their designs and offer suggestions. Architects who are
managing construction projects for their clients may hire our firm
to subcontract the entire project to or a portion of the project.

3. Real Estate Developers: Real estate development firms, whether

hired by individual clients or working on a group of properties on
spec, are looking to maintain long-term relationships with quality
contractors who can work to a budget and schedule. They seek to

Ergonomics

The height of the product should be set according to your elbow height.
The typical desk height is 29.5″, designed to fit a 6’1″ male, which is too
high for most people. The product involves making sure that there’s
enough space for your feet, knees, and thighs. Although this isn’t
something most customer experience, if a desk is too low and is not
adjustable, consider placing boards or blocks under the desk legs. If the
desk is too high, consider raising your chair without compromising your
natural posture. Also, don’t be afraid to use a footrest to support your
feet. If the desk has one of those hard edges, get a wrist rest. Lastly, do
not store anything underneath your desk.

Cost

This product will cost about $2,900 to construct including material and
craftsmanship. This product can be purchase from the store at a cost of
$4,800.

Aesthetics
This product is painted in brown, which is a widely used furniture color.
The style is very ordinary but the customers tend to love it because of
its smooth surface.

20

Construction Method

First, we ask the customer what is the measure for their workspace and
decide on a practical size for your desk. Then, purchase wood and other
supplies and then we cut the boards to the appropriate dimensions to
serve the desktop .Finally, paint or stain the components as desired and
put them together using wood screws to ensure that the finished desk
is sturdy, stable, and built to last.

Client Requirements

This will capture the attention of a variety of customer. It will mainly

purchase by parent/adult and will be used by of different type of
clients, children and adult. Overall I think customer will have no
hesitation it buying this desk.

Health and Safety

When it comes to safety, this product can be a perfect choice. Its

strength is highly durable so accidental collapsing from this desk has to
be deliberate if place in suitable area.

21
Material
This product is made from the teak tree. It is a very hard wood and is
highly resistive to water. Untreated teak can be left in the open for
more than 30 years whilst becoming an attractive soft silver color. Teak
is one of the timbers not susceptible to termite (white ants) attacks.
Teak has a high degree of natural durability, is moderately hard and
heavy with low stiffness and shock resistance but an excellent decay
resistance and dimensional stability with a good acid resistance.

Environmental Impact
Based on research done the teak tree is a very strong hence, it is been
selected. This product can withstand up to 420 pound without
breaking. When it is polishing it resistance to water penetration is
second to none. It can also withstand rugged usage which makes it the
number one choice for outdoor occasion. Teak is worldwide recognized
for its durability and stability, the timber is immense stable, has high oil
content that works as "built-in" natural water repellent and is therefore
virtually immune to rotting, fungi and harsh chemicals. Teak is one of
the few timbers that can withstand the heat of the desert and will not
readily catch fire.
