What youth can do?
Youth participation in Drug
Prevention
WHY INCORPARATE THE YOUTH?
✓ “Prevention programs have proven to be effective, but families and influential adults (peers,
friends) continue to play the most important role in determining how youth handle the lure of
alcohol, cigarettes, misuse of prescription drugs, and illegal drugs” (Youth.Gov).

✓ “The primary objective of drug use prevention is to help people, often young people in
particular, to avoid or delay initiation into the use of drugs, or, if they have started already, to
avoid developing disorders and other negative consequences. Prevention also has a broader
purpose, which is to support the development of children and youth, enabling them to realize
their talents and potential” (United Nations On Drugs and Crime, 2013).

✓ As of January 2020, there are total of 19.8 Million Filipino Youth (15-24 years old) (PSA, 2020).
