FOREWORD
This Malaysian Civil Engineering Standard Method of Measurement Second Edition (MyCESMM2) was
developed by the Working Group under the authority of the Industry Standards Committee on Building,
Construction and Civil Engineering. Development of this standard was carried out by the Construction
Industry Development Board Malaysia which is the Standards-Writing Organisation (SWO) appointed by
SIRIM Berhad to develop standards for construction practices.
In developing this MyCESMM2, reference was made to the Malaysian Standard Civil Engineering Standard
Method of Measurement (MSCESMM) (JSM, 2018) and Malaysian Civil Engineering Standard Method of
Measurement (MyCESMM) (CIDB (M) 2011).
Compliance with a Malaysian Standard does not in itself confer immunity from legal obligations.

(MyCESMM2) INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
MyCESMM2 has been designed to cater for various aspects of local construction practices and is
published to accommodate a comprehensive coverage of civil engineering work in Malaysia.
There are 3 other publications which have been published to complement this MyCESMM2 in order to
provide detail clarification of the work items and to assist measurers in simplifying their tasks when
describing the work items.
a) The Malaysian Standard Method of Measurement in Civil Engineering Works (MSCESMM) (JSM, 2018).
b) ‘Guide to MyCESMM2’ which offers detail technical clarifications on work items found in MSCESMM and
MyCESMM2.
c) ‘Library of Standard BQ Descriptions for MyCESMM2’ which contains a comprehensive option of list of
descriptions of work items from which measurers can extract to facilitate efficiency in the preparation
of the bill of quantities.

Brief on contents in MSCESMM – There are 6 sections in MSCESMM (JSM, 2018) and they are briefly described below:
SECTION 1: SCOPE AND GENERAL
This section defines the scope, normative references, terms and definations, abbreviations and units as described
in MSCESMM (JSM, 2018).
SECTION 2: APPLICATION OF WORK CLASSIFICATION
This section explain about item description, modes of description, separate items, units of measurement,
measurement rule, definition rules, coverage rules, additional description rules and application of rules as described
in MSCESMM (JSM, 2018).
SECTION 3: CODING AND NUMBERING OF ITEMS
This section explain about coding, item numbers, coding of unclassified items and numbering of items with additional
description as described in MSCESMM (JSM, 2018).
SECTION 4: PREPARATION OF THE BILL OF QUANTITIES
This section explain purpose of the bill of quantities, measurement of completed work, sections of the bill of quantities,
preamble, work items, division of the bill of quantities into parts, daywork schedule, heading, sub-headings, extent
of itemisation, descriptions, ranges of dimensions, prime cost items, provisional sums, quantities, work affected by
water, form, setting and grand summary as described in MSCESMM (JSM, 2018).
SECTION 5: COMPLETION, PRICING, AND USE OF THE BILL OF QUANTITIES
This section explains insertation of rates, prices and parts to be totalled as described in MSCESMM (JSM, 2018).
SECTION 6: METHOD-RELATED CHARGES
This section described method-related charges, insertation by a tenderer, intemisation, description, contractor shall
