OPINION - Globalization at a crossroads with COVID-19

The op-ed discusses the current state of globalization in the

midst of COVID-19 pandemic. It describes globalization as a
phenomenon that changed our world drastically by intertwining
the world economy. It affirms that COVID-19 showed how
globalization is a fragile mechanism because it made countries so
interdependent to each other.

OPINON - Put Globalization to Work for Democracies

It is not enough for countries to rely on globalization as

growth engine without putting in a domestic strategy. Unregulated
globalization ends up undermining democracy because it deepens
the divide among those who don’t have the resources to take
advantage of global economy. “Hyperglobalization” is impractical
and must be reassessed.

Less globalization, more multilateralism

Globalization rely on vulnerable production model and

complex global supply chains which is the primary drivers in
support of deglobalization. The COVID-19 catastrophe highlighted
how globalization sacrifices resiliency for cost reduction and short
term efficiency. Some degree of deglobalization is desirable and
there should be more emphasis on sustainability and robustness.
