LP For Reading Process and Reading Strategies
I. Objectives
At the end of the session, the Grade 11 students will be able to:
a. Know what reading is;
b. Apply effective reading strategies; and
c. Appreciate reading strategies when reading a poem.

d. Review
A. Activities
a. The teacher will let the class read the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll.
b. The teacher will let the students analyze the poem.
c. Questions will be asked later on.
B. Analysis
a. The teacher will now ask these questions to the students using the domino
card:
1. Did you understand the poem? Why or why not?
2. What do you think happened in the poem? What is the poem all about?

C. Abstraction
a. The teacher will show a video presentation about the claim and
counterclaim.
CLAIM- the central argument of the text.
It is stating what you prove.
COUNTERCLAIM- it is the other side of the argument.
It is the opposing viewpoint to the central claim.
It has to be provable and supportable.
REASON- it tells why and tells the importance of the claim.
EVIDENCE- it supports the reason.
It tells facts, from researches and from experiences.
D. Application
a. Through a Domino Card, the teacher will call student and give his/her claim
and the next students that will be called will give his/her counterclaim.
b. After that activity, the teacher will give to the student’s an appreciation post
paper to be filled in by the students on the importance of claims and
counterclaims in an argument.
IV. Evaluation
Directions: Choose a partner and choose between your partner if who will give a
claim on a certain topic and the other will give the counterclaim. Write it
in a one whole sheet of paper.
V. Assignment
Directions: Look for a newspaper or a magazine and look for an article that you think
has a claim and then cut-out the certain article, put it in a short bond
paper and write your counterclaim of the article.
