A man went to a doctor for vasectomy because he and his wife agreed to have birth
control after having five children already. The doctor assured him that the procedure would be
100 percent effective; the man’s wife later became pregnant.

1. Discuss and critique the case (2 to 3 sentences)

a. It is the doctor’s fault because he assured the patient that vasectomy is always
100 percent effective but the unwanted result of pregnancy still happened.
Moreover, he failed to educate the patient about the do’s and don’ts of a post
vasectomy patient, such as refraining from sexual activities which can result to a
possible pregnancy.

2. Identify the rights and responsibilities of the patient that were violated
a. Rights
i. Right to disclosure and access to information
ii. Right to health education
iii. Right to express grievances
iv. Right to be informed of his rights and obligations as a patient
b. Responsibilities
i. Know and exercise your rights as a patient responsibly and reasonably.
ii. Ask questions when you do not understand what your doctor or other
members of your health care team tell you about diagnosis or treatment
and its cost.
iii. Maintain a state of wellness and refrain from indulging in unhealthy
lifestyle that has adverse impact on your health.
