CALL FOR PAPERS

Kerala University Journal of Legal Studies (KUJLS)

ABOUT
The Kerala University Journal of Legal Studies (KUJLS) is a half-yearly Peer-Reviewed /
Refereed Journal of the Department of Law, University of Kerala, published since 1998.   We
are pleased to invite original, unpublished manuscripts for publication to 2021 Volume XIV
Issue 1 & 2 of the journal in the form of Articles & Case Comments.
Papers submitted for publication in KUJLS should be original and expects authors to
abide by academic integrity and intellectual honesty. The Department of Law, Kerala
University shall be the sole copyright owner of all the published manuscripts.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:
We will accept manuscripts for the Journal up to April 15th , 2021.

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES & WORD LIMIT:


i. Articles - 3500 – 12,500 words inclusive of footnotes.
ii. Case Comments - 1,500 – 3,000 words inclusive of footnotes.

SUMISSION GUIDELINES:
1. All submissions are required to be addressed to the Head, Department of Law, Kerala
University and emailed to kujls@keralauniversity.ac.in.
2. All submissions should be sent with a covering letter indicating the Name of the
Author, Designation and e-mail ID, Topic of the Paper and Declaration duly signed of
no prior publication.
3. Manuscripts shall be in Microsoft word format, Times New Roman font, 12 pt. font
size and 1.5 line spacing.
4. It shall include an abstract of not more than 150 words.
5. All citations shall be placed in footnotes. Citation shall adhere to JILI format of
citation .Reference attached herewith.
6. Submission made to KUJLS shall be on a exclusive basis and must not be concurrently
under consideration by any other publication.

MODE OF CITATION FOR BOOKS

A. FOR AN AUTHORED BOOK

(i) By a single author:


Name of the author, Title of the book p.no. (if referring to specific page or pages)
(Publisher, Place of publication, edition/year of publication).
E.g. D.D.Basu, Commentary on the Constitution of India 98 (Lexis Nexis Butterworths,
Wadhwa, Nagpur, 9th edn., 2018).
(ii) By two authors:
Name of the authors, Title of the book p.no. (if referring to specific page or pages)
(Publisher, Place of publication, edition/year of publication).
E.g. Dr. G.K.Kapoor and Sanjay Dhamija, Company Law- A Comprehensive Text Book
on Compoanies Act, 2013 38 (Taxmann, Delhi, 21st edn., 2018).
(iii) By multiple authors (more than two):
Name of the first two authors, et.al., Title of the book p.no. (if referring to specific
page or pages) (Publisher, Place of publication, edition/year of publication).
E.g. Dr. B.K. Singh, Dr. Angad Tiwary , Dr. Nikhil Guptal, et.al., Business Law 50 (SBPD
Publications,Agra, Uttar Pradesh, 2017).

B.FOR EDITED BOOKS


(i) By a single editor:
Name of the editor (ed.), Title of the book p.no. (if referring to specific page or
pages) (Publisher, Place of publication, edn/year). E.g. Vijay Hansaria (ed.), Schedule
to the Constitution(Universal Law Publishing, Allahabad, 2018).
(ii) By two editors:
Name of the editors (eds.), Title of the book p.no. (if referring to specific page or
pages) (Publisher, Place of publication, edn/year). E.g. Thierry Calame, Massimo
Sterpi (eds.), Copyright Litigation 38-42 (Sweet and Maxwell, London, 2017).
(iii) By more than two editors:
Name of the editors, the first two only, et.al. (eds.), Title of the book p.no. (if

C.MODE OF CITATION FOR ARTICLES/ESSAYS


(i) Citation of a paper published in a journal/periodical:
Name of author of the article, title of the essay within inverted commas, volume
number of journal Name of the journal in abbreviation page number (year). E.g.
Sanoj Rajan, “Ending International Surrogacy-induced Statelessness: An International
Human Rights Perspective” 19 IJIL 23 (2018).
(ii) Citation of a paper published in a case reporter:
Sean Mennim, “Burden of Proof in Trafficking and Modern Slavery Cases: R v MK
[2018] Crim 667” 82 SCJ 282-286 (2018).
(iii) Citation of an essay published as a part of a Survey of Law (e.g. Annual Survey of
Indian Law, an annual publication of the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi):
Name of author of the essay, title of the essay within inverted commas, volume
number name of the survey, page number (year). E.g. B.B. Pande, “Criminal Law” XLI
ASIL 171-198 (2005).
(iv) Citation of a write-up published in a news paper/periodical:
Name of the writer, Title of the write-up within inverted commas, Name of the
newspaper, date. E.g. Priya Pillai, “A gathering storm: on engaging with human rights
law” The Hindu, March 5, 2018.
(v) Citation of an editorial from a newspaper: Editorial, Title of the Editorial within inverted
commas Name of the newspaper, date. E.g. Editorial, “Overdue correction: on revisiting the
Companies Act” The Hindu,July 17, 2018.
(vi) Citing a reference form Encyclopaedia: E.g. Edwin R.A. Seligman (ed.), XV Encyclopaedia of
the Social Sciences (The Macmillan Co., NY, 1957).
D.WEBSITES
If the website gives information as to when it was last modified, the same must be cited. If
not, then the author must indicate the date of visiting the website.
E.g. Information Technology Act 2000, India, available at: http://www.mit.gov.in/itbill.asp
(Last Modified July 29, 2003). E.g. Information Technology Act 2000, India, available at:
http://www.mit.gov.in/itbill.asp (last visited on July 29, 2003).
Unpublished Research Work (E. g., Dissertation/Thesis):

E.MODE OF CITATION OF CASE LAW


i. Where the case title is written in the body of the text, only the name of the
case shall be in the text e.g. Kesavananda Bharathi v. State of Kerala and the
citation is written in the footnote as AIR 1973 SC 1461.
ii. If the name and citation are to be written in the footnote itself:
Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala, AIR 1962 SC 933.
iii. If parties to a case are numerous, for e.g. State of Punjab v. Union of India
and others; this case is to be cited as: State of Punjab v. Union of India (1977)
3 SCC 592.
