I. WBC Count PBS

A. Task: Report WBC count in SI unit.
Field WBCs Present

1 4

2 3

3 4

4 5

5 5

6 1

7 7

8 6

9 5

10 5

Average = 45/10 = 4.5 per field

WBC count = average WBC per field x 3000
= 4.5 x 3000
= 13,500/ ul
SI unit = 13.5x10^9/ul

II. WBC Differential Count

A. Task:
1. Report the differential count

Formula: (no. of WBC per type) / 100

Eosinophils 26%

Basophils 6%

Neutrophils 22%

Lymphocytes 30%

Monocytes 9%

Band / Stab cell 7%

2. Report the absolute count for each cell type. Use the WBC count result of
the Lab activity for manual WBC count
WBC ct = 13.5 x 10^9/L or 13,500/uL

Formula: WBC ct. x diff ct. per WBC type

Eosinophils 26 13.5 x 0.26 =
3.51x10^9/L

Basophils 6 13.5 x 0.06 =

0.81x10^9/L

Neutrophils 22 13.5 x 0.22 =

2.97x10^9/L

Lymphocytes 30 13.5 x .30 =

4.05x10^9/L

Monocytes 9 13.5 x 0.09 =

1.215x10^9/L

Band / Stab cell 7 13.5 x 0.07 =

0.945x10^9/L
Woops

3. Compute for the corrected WBC count if 15nRBC/100 WBC were

observed
WBCct x 100
no. of nRBCs during differential count + 100

SI unit = 13.5x10^9/ul (from Activity 1)

nRBCs = 15

13.5x10^9 x 100
15 + 100

= 11.7 x 10^9/L
