QUESTIONS TO ANSWER:

1. WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THE EVOLUTION AND HISTORY OF BASKETBALL?

 The history of basketball began with its invention in 1891 in Springfield,

Massachusetts by Canadian physical education instructor James Naismith as a less
injury-prone sport than football. Naismith was a 31-year old graduate student
when he created the indoor sport to keep athletes indoors during the winters.
Basketball was not known to anyone in the world. When it was first played in a
local gym, they used baskets for hoops, and used a ladder to get the ball after
every made shot.

2. DO YOU THINK PLAYING BASKETBALL CAN PROMOTE FITNESS, HEALTH AND

WELLNESS AMONG FAMILY MEMBERS? HOW?

 Playing basketball helps to improve motor coordination, flexibility, and endurance.

It also encourages speed, agility, and strength. These skills are shown to have a
positive effect on promoting a healthy body weight and encouraging more physical
activity, which can enhance cardiorespiratory fitness and self-esteem.

3. GIVE YOUR REACTION OR IDEA REGARDING THIS QUOTE: “IN SPORTS, IT’S NOT
WINNING THAT MATTERS MOST; IT’S HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME.”
 Sport is an activity that involves teams and players. Winning and losing do play a
part in it. But, in the end, sports is about giving your all, respecting one another,
and having fun. Winning is greatly emphasized, most especially since it seems to
be the ultimate goal. But, sports mean so much more than that. Sports is about
giving your all and not giving up. Athletes have to leave their hearts on the court
or field. At the end of the game, there will be no regret. It is a sign of respect for
the sport, for the other players, and for the audience. Sports is about the respect
of all to all. It is about respecting one another in acknowledgment that there is
that goal of winning. It is about respecting one another while competing healthily
despite having the same ultimate goal. Lastly, a sport is about having fun. It is hard
if there is no enjoyment. When the focus is so much on winning, the fun is lost.
When you look, fun is everywhere in sports. The adrenaline pumping to run faster.
The noise of the audience as they cheer. The competition between teams and
players. All these are the things that matter. It is not so much on the winning.

4. WHAT OTHER PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, MENTAL AND SOCIAL BENEFITS CAN YOU
DERIVE FROM PLAYING BASKETBALL?

 When we exercise, our bodies release endorphins. These naturally occurring

chemicals are scientifically proven to improve our mood, reduce stress, relieve
feelings of anxiety and depression, boost self- esteem and help us sleep better.
