Formative Assessment 3

Arguments Discussion
(1)Movements of the hands and arms when I agree with this argument, hands and arms
speaking reflect our thinking. are a form of gesture that communicates
things to convey or express information. In
the book Rethinking Body Language that the
body language is essentially focused on
emotional expression and social relationship
negotiation.

It also stated that the hands and arm

movement reflect the aspect of Individuals
thinking (Beattie, 2016). For instance, when
we are presenting in front of the class, we are
not aware that our hands are moving while
we are speaking. In another instance, sign
language is used by deaf people as a way to
communicate with others. Therefore, the
movement of the hands and arms reflects our
thinking, they have helped us to convey the
information in our mind.
(2)The microexpressions, that fleeting facial I believe that this argument is may agree or
expressions, display real emotions. disagree. Microexpression is an involuntary
response that only occurs in less than a
second. For the reason that the individual will
no longer have time to think of what they will
do since they have a slow response.

However, microexpressions may be a

voluntary response or the individual can
control their expression. For example, males
are taught by our culture while they are still
young to not cry or to show weakness. But if
someone tries to hide their emotions, they
simply will leak out at a second
(Microexpressions, n.d.). Therefore,
microexpressions may display real or lies
emotions.

(3)High levels of eye contact and postural I Agree with this argument. Eye contact and
mirroring means ‘liking’. posture play an important role in
communication. Eye contact can convey many
things, including that being sincere, attentive,
and interested to someone or to the topic.
That is to say that having a high level of eye
contact with someone signifies that the
individual is an active listener and expresses
intimacy.

Postural mirroring is the imitating the gestures

of another Individual. There is a cell in the
brain called Mirror Neurons which respond to
the activity when the individual performs a
certain movement or posture and when the
other individual performs the same
movement or posture (Kilner & Lemond,
2013). This indicates that there is a specific
cell that is responsible for our actions. The
liking has many meanings this may be
intimacy with your family, friends, or to
others. Therefore, High levels of eye contact
and posture mirroring means ‘liking’.

4)The degree of people’s interactional I Disagree with this argument. Interactional

synchrony (timing of their bodily synchrony is defined as when two individuals
movements) indicate their attraction for one are interacting with one another and tend to
another. mirror their bodily movements (A-Level
Psychology Attachment, n.d.). I argue with
the argument because I believe that every
synchrony of bodily movements are result by
random coincidence.
