UNPACKING AND INSPECTING.
The equipment becomes the property of the customer when the equipment is delivered to the carrier. Perform a vis-
ual inspection to determine that no apparent damage has been incurred during shipment. Do not accept a damaged
shipment or a shipment with shortages until the carrier’s agent endorses a statement of the irregularity on the ship-
ping documents. Without documentary evidence, a claim can not be filed.
Unpack the equipment immediately and carefully inspect for concealed damage. If damage is discovered, stop un-
packing and request an immediate inspection by a local agent of the carrier. A written report of the agent’s inspec-
tion with his signature is necessary to support the claim. The contents of the shipment should be as indicated on the
packing list. Do not discard any packing material until all items are located. Small items are often thrown away
with the packing material. Packing material should be retained until equipment testing has been completed. Any
equipment returned to the factory should be packed in the original cartons, insured, and pre–paid.
INSTALLATION.
RACK INSTALLATIONS.
Install rack–mounted equipment in a well ventilated, well–grounded, and shielded rack cabinet. Do not locate solid–
state equipment in a rack above high temperature producing tube–type equipment. Problems can also be avoided by
locating the unit away from other equipment containing strong magnetic field transformers. These fields can induce
hum and noise into the equipment and result in poor performance. Strong RF fields should be avoided where pos-
sible. Extensive shielding and filtering have been incorporated into the SR–10E to permit operation in moderate RF
environments. All equipment racks, cabinets, etc. should be connected together by a 2 inch wide copper grounding
strap to ensure that all system elements are at the same RF ground potential.
RECEIVER CONNECTIONS.
1. Connect the program audio output to TB–l. The audio output is balanced, isolated from ground, and will provide
a level of +10 dB at 600 ohms. A balanced audio output is also available at J4–4 and J4–5 on the J4
ACCESSORY connector.
2. ACCESSORY connector J4 has several uses such as receiver muting, automatic repeater, remote signaling or
switching, and external DC power. Connection instructions are furnished with these accessories.
3. Connect the receiving antenna coax to the Type–N J6 ANTENNA receptacle using a Type–N male connector. A
short flexible jumper of up to 20 inches in length may be used between J6 and the Heliax. A Marti Part No.
585–017 double–shielded low–loss RG–2 14/U jumper is recommended.
4. Connect the ac line receptacle on the rear panel to a 115 volt AC power source with the supplied ac line
cord. Use only 3 prong grounded outlet receptacles for safety.
3
ANTENNAS.
BASE STATION ANTENNA INSTALLATION.
NOTE THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTIONS ARE FOR PERSONNEL RE-
SPONSIBLE FOR ANNTENA INSTALLATIONS TO AVOID ER-
NOTE RORS IN ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENT. MARTI ELECTRON-
ICS, INC. ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INSTAL-
LATION AND PERFORMANCE OF ANTENNA SYSTEMS USED
NOTE WITH MARTI EQUIPMENT. THE FOLLOWING TEXT IS NOT A
COMPLETE STEP–BY–STEP PROCEDURE. HOWEVER, THE
NOTE TEXT PRESENTS THE MOST FREQUENTLY REPORTED ER-
RORS IN ANTENNA SYSTEM INSTALLATION.
Antenna Assembly.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. If no instructions were included with the antenna, call or write the
antenna manufacturer for instructions. Antennas which have phasing or stacking cables must be assembled carefully
to avoid phase reversal or signal cancellation.
4
Moisture Proofing Coax Connectors.
Extreme care must be exercised with coaxial cable before and after connectors have been installed to ensure that
moisture does not enter the line. Foam dielectric line can absorb moisture and is difficult to detect and remedy.
Therefore, keep the line dry while in storage with the ends tightly capped. Coaxial splices, connectors, and fittings to
be located outside should be made mechanically tight, then coated with a weatherproofing material over at least two
layers of vinyl plastic electrical tape. Moisture problems in antenna systems are usually traced back to connectors
which have NOT been properly taped. The Marti K–1 Grounding and Weatherproofing Kit is recommended for use
in each new antenna installation.
System Grounding.
It is essential that the RPU antenna system be properly grounded for safety and proper operation. Ensure the antenna
system is properly grounded.
OPERATION.
PROGRAM LEVEL CONTROL.
The SR–10E audio output level is adjusted using a small screwdriver and the PGM. LEVEL control. To adjust the
audio output level, operate the TEST METER switch to PGM. LEVEL and adjust the PGM. LEVEL control for
the desired output level. 0 VU on the TEST METER will be approximately +10 dBm at the TB–1 audio output ter-
minals.
SQUELCH CONTROL.
The SQUELCH ADJUST control is factory set to operate at a received signal level of approximately 0.5 micro-
volts. This level can be changed by increasing or decreasing the control setting. Very sensitive settings of the control
should be avoided to prevent noise or other signals could open the squelch. The SQUELCH–OPEN indicator pro-
vides a visual indication of the squelch operation.
5
POWER INDICATOR.
The POWER indicator will illuminate to indicate ac power or an appropriate dc power source is applied to the unit.
SIG Level.
When the TEST METER switch is operated to SIG. LEVEL, the RF signal level at J6 will be displayed on the VU
meter. The following table presets typical signal levels in microvolts for various VU meter values.
PGM Level.
When the TEST METER switch is operated to PGM. LEVEL, the audio level at the 600 ohm balanced output ter-
minals will be displayed on the VU meter. 0 VU is approximately +10 dBm at TB–1. Peak values of 0 VU should
not be exceeded with program audio.
AFC Level.
When the TEST METER switch is operated to AFC LEVEL, the AFC error correction voltage in the phase–locked
loop will be displayed on the VU meter. The operating range of the AFC error correction voltage is between –2 VU
to +3 VU. Level errors greater than the normal range will require adjustment of the VCO center frequency (refer to
TUNE UP AND ADJUSTMENTS).
+13 V Supply.
When the TEST METER switch is operated to +13 V. SUPPLY, the 13 volt dc supply level will be displayed on the
VU meter. When the supply is equal to +13 volts, the meter will indicate 1 VU.
Decode Level.
When the TEST METER switch is operated to DECODE LEVEL, the level from the decoder circuit board will be
displayed on the VU meter. When the signal is properly decoded, the meter will indicate 0 VU.
6
Mixer Level.
When the TEST METER switch is operated to MIXER LEVEL, the level from the mixer on the converter circuit
board will be displayed on the VU meter. The normal mixer level range is between –4 VU and +3 VU.
MONITOR LEVEL.
The MONITOR LEVEL control adjusts the level of the HEADPHONES receptacle. Adjust the MONITOR
LEVEL control to obtain the desired headphone level.
HEADPHONES RECEPTACLE.
The HEADPHONES receptacle allows the operator to monitor the program audio. The HEADPHONES receptacle
accepts any headphones with an impedance greater than 8 Ohms.
3. Refer to Figure 2 and locate the controller circuit board. This circuit board is the larger board directly
behind the front panel channel display.
4. Refer to Figure 2 and select the number of operating channels using jumper P105.
5. Refer to Figure 2 and place the OPERATE/PROGRAM jumper P104 on the controller circuit board in the
PROGRAM position as shown.

G. Repeat the procedure for each channel to be programmed into the unit.
H. If all the channels in a configuration are not used, program the unused channels using the frequency from
the last used channel. For example, a unit is configured for 8 channels and only channels 1 through 6 are
to be used. Therefore, program channels 7 and 8 with the frequency assigned to channel 6.
7. When all the channel programming has been completed, refer to Figure 2 and return the
OPERATE/PROGRAM jumper on the controller circuit board to the OPERATE position.
8. Refer to Figure 3 and operate all the DIP switches to the 1 position. The unit will not recall the stored
frequencies correctly if this is not performed.
9. Replace the top cover.
THEORY OF OPERATION.
The SR–10E block diagram at the end of this manual presents an overall description of the SR–10E circuitry. Refer
to the diagram as required for the following circuit description.
9
CONVERTER CIRCUIT BOARD 800–213A4E/–213A3E/–212A2E/
–212A1E.
The SR–10E is equipped with 4 different converter circuit boards as determined by the band of operation. The
800–213A4E circuit board is used in the 450 MHz band units. The 800–213A3E circuit board is used in the 300
MHz band units. The 800–212A2E circuit board is used in the 215 MHz band units. The 800–212A1E circuit board
is used in the 150 MHz band units. The received RF signal is applied to the converter circuit board. After passing
through a three–section pre–selector, the signal is coupled to a dual–gate FET RF amplifier. The output of this am-
plifier is impedance matched to double–balanced mixer X1. X1 also receives a local oscillator frequency (L.O.)
generated by the frequency synthesizer circuit board. The L.O. frequency will be 10.7 MHz below the received sig-
nal. As a result, the mixer will output a 10.7 MHz signal to the input filter circuit board.
10
AUDIO CIRCUIT BOARD 800–228A10S/800–228A8S.
Audio from the FM detector on the IF amplifier circuit board is applied through notch filter IC1B to remove the sub-
audible encoding tone. This signal is then fed into de–emphasis circuit IC1A. The feedback circuit of this opera-
tional amplifier has a fixed 75 microsecond loop with an additional 75 microseconds selected by Q1. The additional
75 microseconds is used to provide noise reduction on weak signals of 1.5 microvolts or less. Q1 is enabled by the
output of comparator IC2A on power supply/squelch circuit board 800–219CA. Following the de–emphasis circuit,
the signal passes through two stages of a Butterworth low–pass filter consisting of IC2A and IC2B. From the low–
pass filter, the signal is applied to audio output dual operational amplifier IC3A and IC3B. Diodes D1 and D2 recti-
fy the output audio for level metering. A 600/600 Ohm transformer isolates the output amplifier from the line. One
amplifier in IC3 drives the line output and the other drives the monitor speaker. The speaker volume is controlled by
the front–panel MONITOR LEVEL control.
11
LCD DISPLAY DRIVER CIRCUIT BOARD 800–341A.
The channel display is controlled by circuitry on the LCD display driver circuit board. The output of U107 on the
controller circuit board also functions as an address generator for EEPROM U302. U302 is programmed with the
data used to generate the numerals on the LCD display. The output of U302 is pulsed by timer U301 and applied to
transistor array U303 which is used to drive the LCD display on the LCD display circuit board. DS301 is used to
back–light the LCD display.
MAINTENANCE.
The SR–10E is thoroughly tested and inspected at the factory prior to shipment. The unit performance was recorded
on the RECEIVER TEST DATA sheet. Adjustments should rarely be necessary in the field and should only be at-
tempted by highly trained technicians familiar with this type of equipment. Laboratory grade test equipment is re-
quired and is listed under Test Equipment. Refer to the SR–10E ADJUSTMENT locations illustration in the follow-
ing text for the location of the adjustments and test points.
