Event/Speaker Reflection: Tim Gordon and The Patriarchy

Going into this event all I had heard was that this man was a very conservative Catholic with a
podcast, where he says some very controversial things. The night before a few guys households hung
out with Tim and got to know him a little bit on a personal level, he was a great guy. The talk was about
the Patriarchy and he basically explained his new book called “The Case for Patriarchy”. At first I was a
little skeptical about the talk because some of his points were very extreme, however at the end I took
away a good deal of knowledge that was applicable to my leadership. He emphasizes that the man is the
head of the household and that in todays society we see the woman take over and it is not a true
household. This is not anything that we as Catholics do not agree with. He went on to point out that
many of his friends look to get away from spending time with their family by staying late at work, or
scheduling conflicts on purpose. He said that men should want to spend time with their families and
they should want to help them grow. The whole talk basically summed up what it meant to be a leader
of a household. Though I am not married, I can apply this to my daily life, by taking charge in my
relationship through the faith, and leading my girlfriend to the cross. Also, I can take charge with my
family at home, showing my mother and my sister what it truly means to be a Christ centered person. In
my friendships, I should be there for them and lead by example morally. I have the biggest chance to
impact my Father and his relationship with Christ, he has lost his faith, but I know that I can lead him
along in this area and show him what it means to be a man of Christ. This talk taught me to have a sense
of humble-pride in being a man that can take his entire family to heaven if lead in the right way.
