TITLE of the ART: T’BOLI CLOTH MADE OF ABACA
ARTIST: LANG DULAY
ELEMENTS/PRINCIPLES
1. APPROPRIATION
It is the process of making new content
by taking another source pre-existing
image— books on art history, ads, the
media—and the incorporating or
combining it with new ones.
2. PERFORMANCE
It refers to the art activities that are
presented to a live audience and can
combine music, dance, poetry, theatre,
visual art and audio.
3. SPACE
It is an art transforming space, for
example the flash mobs, and art
installations in mall and parks. It also
refers to the distances or areas
surrounding, within and within the
components of an item.
4. HYBRIDITY
It is a usage of unconventional materials, from the natural environment and these
mixing of unlikely materials to produce
artwork.
5. TECHNOLOGY
It refers to the use of mass production contraptions used for weaving designs
and the manipulation of the virtual world, which she is using to guide other
its tools and program.
EVALUATION
the cloth weaved by Lang Dulay was
originally made by her from colorful abaca
fabric that symbolizes their culture and
belief and she used to sell it for support
for their living.
Lang Dulay was a famous and the living
treasure of T’boli as a great weaver of
tinalak. Her artwork are famous because
of how she weave it and how wonderful
the color combination was.
TInalak is one of the famous art weave
made by Lang Dulay, there are the
traditional symbol made, thousands of
patterns that reference folklore and
stories as known to be the T’boli women
memory.
Lang Dulay knows a hundred designs,
including the bulinglangit (clouds), the
bankiring (hair bangs), and the kabangi
(butterfly), each one special for the
stories it tells.
T’boli Weavers use materials coming
materials are grass, pineapple fiber,
pandan leaves, banana fiber, sinamay,
and the most common used was the
abaca.
Lang Dulay's feet are two bamboo
weavers.
She also used the manual loom to weave
and create her famous design.
