The anfo loader kit allows remote control operation of any pressurized anfo loading vessel. Instead of having a man turn the flow of anfo on and off by signals from his partner, a remotely controlled actuator turns the ball valve to the open and closed position. ‘The actuator is operated by means of a control valve which clips onto the operator's belt How Does It Work? Air at 125 psi enters the system through the air strainer. The air then proceeds through the Control Manifold and into the pressure reducing valve. A small amount of air is drawn off before the pressure reducing valve to feed the Control Valve. The reduced pressure air is distributed to the fluidizing air circuit, the blowing air circuit and into the vessel itself to pressurize it. If the operator selects position “A” on the Control Valve, the actuator rotates the 1.5 inch ball vatve to the open position. When the operator selects position "B", the specially modified actuator opens the Blowing air circuit. The centre or “E” position on the Control Valve is the off position. In this position both the Anfo and Blowing air are off, only the fluidizing air is on. When switching from “A” to “B” position always stop at the “E" position to allow air to exhaust, this will prevent possible jamming of the actuator. Braga. plae 3- WAY HAND VALVE ANFO BLOW MARCOTTE MINING MACHINERY SERVICES INC. 3 RAM ANFO LOADER SERVICE TRAINING Pe a ested Si Proces 4 2. MARCOTTE MINING MACHINERY SERVICES INC. Close all the valves on the Control Manifold. Ensure that the Control Valve is in the “E” or off position Connect the air supply to the inlet at the air stainer. Slowly turn on the air supply to the vessel. Turn on the main vaive (#1) on the Control Manifold. This will immediately pressurize the vessel and seal the top of the tank. Check the pressure gauge, normally the pressure should be set at 55 to 65 psi. If the setting is incorrect, release the lock on the pressure reducing valve adjusting knob and turn the knob in the appropriate direction. If the pressure was too high, it will be necessary to bleed down the pressure using the tank bleed valve (#4). The vessel pressure can only be properly adjusted when it is filled with anfo. Adjust the fluidizing air with valve (#3). This is the small amount of air that is always on to clear the hose of prills after the anfo vaive is closed. Adjust the blowing air by turning the control vaive to the “8” position and then opening vaive #4 until yu get the desired amount of air blowing out of the loader hose. This is the air for blowing cuttings out of the holes To check the “A” of anfo loading function, point the loader hose at the ground and turn the Control Vaive to the “A” position. This will open the ball valve and allow anfo to blow out. During this test, check the vessel pressure, it should remain constant at 65 to 65 psi. If you are getting a good flow of prills and the pressure is low, adjust the pressure regulator. Wet or sticky anfo will allow more air to escape considerably. It is not beneficial to raise the vessel pressure in this case, The best alternative is to clean out the wet anfo. RAM ANFO LOADER SERVICE TRAINING 10. 11 12, Once the valves have been set itis usually not necessary to reset them. {fou wish to check that the ball valve is actually opening you can do so by looking at the bottom of the actuator opposite the ball valve. There you will see a rectangular shatt protruding. During the proper operation, the shaft will rotate 90 degrees. The positioning is the same as any valve, parallel when open, crosswise when closed. If the valve fails to operate properly at some time, itis possible to put a crescent wrench on the shaft and open and close the valve manually. The Control Valve will stil have to be tumed on and off because the resistance of the valve is too great to operate with the wrench alone. Itis essential that an air strainer be kept in the system at all times. If dirt enters the air circuit it will inhibit proper operation of the Control Valve. Itis recommended that the vessel be emptied after each use. A regular washing of the controls is also advised, MARCOTTE MINING MACHINERY SERVICES INC. 5 SERVICE TRAINING RAM ANFO LOADER 1/47 CONTROL URE W/Z AR UNE MARCOTTE MINING MACHINERY SERVICES INC. Ifforany reason it is necessary to install a vave between com- pressor and receiver, itis imperative that a pressure re- Tefvalve be placed inthe line between compressor and the valve, dh DANGER Do not operate the compressor without the proper pressure reliet valve. Overpressure operation may cause severe damage to equipment and personal injury. As the air cools in being carried through the distributing lines to the point at which it is to be used, it deposits moisture mixed with a small amount of oil. This mois- ture is objectionable in pneumatic tools, sand blasting, paint spray work and similar operations, Much of the trouble with water in the air lines can be overcome if ‘small receivers to act as collecting tanks are put in the lines at frequent intervals, otherwise suitable moisture traps should be used. AIR RECEIVER — When possible locate the air receiv- er outside the building where it has an opportunity to radiate most of the heat. Drain cock should be located al the lowest point in the receiver for drawing off atleast once a day the accumulated oil and water. Where there is danger of freezing, pressure relief valve shoutd be lo: cated on the inside wall, preferably with the compres: Sor control equipment. All pressure elie! valves should be tested daily by hand to be sure thal they are unc- tioning properly dk DANGER All pressure relief valves should be tested daily by hand to be sure that - they are functioning properly. Failure to perform test daily could result in personal injury or damage to equipment. LUBRICATING SYSTEM - All ASU and ASK models are splash lubricated, All APJ and APK models are pump lubricated, “\" BELT DRIVE - “V" belt drive consists of a number of rubber-fabric composition belts operating in grooved pulleys. Adjustable motor base is provided to take up stretch of belts. The belts should be run only fairly ight. Slight inequalities of length in the various strands should cause no concern as belts wil equalize ‘on tight side under load, No belt dressing of any sort is required, Always install a complete set of new belts ‘when belts become worn. COVERS AND GUARDS di, DANGER All compressor covers and guards must be securely fastened in proper position at all times when the compressor is operating to avoid personal injury or death from moving parts. In addition, all moving parts on the entire compressor package, including but not limited to engine or motors, drive shafts, belts, pulleys, etc., must be equipped with guards or covers, which must also be securely fastened in proper position at all times when equipment is operating. Covers and guards are intended to not only protect against personal injury or death, but to also protect the equipment from damage from foreign objects. om ROTATION AS VIEWED FROM SHEAVE END la ka" geet UT cone 08 Gs Ss ROTATION DIAGRAM AIR FILTER - The intake of every compressor should be equipped with an air fiter to prevent dust and other abrasives from being drawn into the cylinders. In cases where no air fiter is installed, the company will ‘assume no responsiblity for excessive wear of pistons, piston rings, cylinder bore or vaive details, even though Such wear occurs very soon after compressor is installed. To operate properly, the filters must be kept clean, PRESTART CHECK - Before starting the unit for the first time, be certain that all the accessory items shipped loose with the unit are properly installed; compressor air fiter, pressure relief vaive, etc. ‘Check over the electrical connections to see that all connections are tight and properly made before throw- ing the switch. A\ WARNING ROTATION - the compressor must be run in the proper direction so that the fan will blow air over the compressor and for pump to operate. The motor leads must be connected to give the required direction of rotation. NOTICE Oil pump rotation is preset. Refer to illustration to reverse operation. Go over all bolts, nuts, and valve clamp screws to see that they are tight, AX CAUTION Break-in oil supplied in the crank- case from the factory. Change oil af- ter 50 hours and refill the crankcase with lubricating oil. INITIAL STARTING - When starting for the first time, be certain that all tems in the prestart have been com- plied with. ‘On initial start or after the compressor has been over hauled, run the compressor with the receiver outlet vaives wide open for about ten minutes so that oll will be distributed over all wearing surfaces. When sure that the unit is operating satisfactorily, partly close the receiver valve and gradually bring the pressure up to normal working pressure. When starting up a new or rebuilt compressor, run the unit fully loaded for the first 40 hours to ensure proper seating of the rings. LUBRICATION - Oil level in the crankcase must be maintained. Add oil as required to maintain the correct level. The viscosity required for various operating tem- perature ranges are given in the Viscosity Chart on the next page. Correct weight of oll for oxisting temperatures is most important. Oil which is too heavy cannot be picked up by the oil pump or splash freely and will cause bearing damage and subsequent failure. Approximately three (3) pints of oll are required to fil the crankcase, The oil level must be checked and maintained on a daily basis. OIL QUALITY - There are many brands of lubricating oils which are represented by the suppliers as meeting the specifications for veitical compressor lubrication. “The abilty of an oil fo meet the minimum performance eve! for 3 particular application is determined by the supplier 1 2, te gesyporestbty for the QUALIDY of the olf and ts PEHFOPMANCE IN SERVICE RESTS WITH THE OIL SUPPLIER, A\ CAUTION Mixing of different types or the use of inferior tubricants will result in the formation of heavy varnish and sludge throughout the compressor. OIL CHANGE - When a new or overhauled unit is placed in service, the oil should be changed at the end of the first 50 hours of operation. The oil should be changed again after the next 100 hours operation so that all polishing residue from working parts wil be re- moved from the crankcase. ‘Subsequent cil change periods must be determined by checking the discoloration and physical condition of the cil in the crankcase. Due to dust, dirt and atmosphoric ‘conditions being different at various locations, itis not practical to definitely state how often the lubricating off inthe crankcase should be changed. Service given the air ter and crankcase breather also has a direct bear- ing on the ol change interval, as does high humidity ‘coneitions which contribute to farmatinn af wararsts de- posits through oxidation of the ol. The period for hanging oil's therefore regulated by local conditions, The oil, however, should nat be used for more than 500 hours. Always provide clean containers, funnels and clean storage of oil and cleaning fluids. Changing oil will be of litle benefit if done improperly. Fil crankcase through the opening. Check the level With the dipstick. Wipe away al dit bofore removing the ail filer plug. After the unit has operated for several minutes, check the off level and add if necessary. ‘When starting the unit after an oil change, start slowly under no-load until assured the oil reaches all moving parts. ‘Condensate accumulation in the crankcase will often ecur as aresult ofhigh humidity conditions, wide tem- perature range and intermittent service. DUTY CYCLE - Allunits operating at 175 PSIG or less. are rated for continuous operation in an ambient tem perature of 104° F. or less. Units operating from 176 to 250 PSIG discharge pres- sure are rated at 60% duty with a continuous “ort time not to exceed two hours. Operation above 104” F, is not recommended. Main electrical switch for motor driven units is off and marked so it cannot be accidentally turned on. B. Pressure in air system is com- pletely released. C. Never reach hand into crankcase without being conscious of the fact that the crankshaft can rotate due to the position of the counter- weights. D. Proper equipment and tools are used. Failure to observe these precautions will result in injury or death. MAIN BEARING ADJUSTMENT - Main bearings are tapered roller type and seldom require adjustment. ‘They are correctly adjusted at the factory by means of thin shims under the bearing end plate. Should adjust. ment become necessary, both bearings are adjusted simultaneously by removing the required number of shims from beneath the end plate opposite the drive end. This adjustment must be made with care so that bearings will not be too tight. ‘CONNECTING ROD - The proper torque for tightening the connectingrad bolt on the bronze rodsis 28-31 foot pounds dry, Each bolt must be pulled up evenly on each side. ‘ A\CAUTION Do not pull up each bolt to rating sep- arately as this will cause the rod bore to deform to an out-of-round condi- tion. CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL must be installed with the lips of the seat facing in towne the oil side to retain oll in crake: VALVES - The suction and discharge valves of a com- pressor are vital working parts and must receive careful allention at regular intervals, The intervals for inspe tion and cleaning of the vaives will depend on the quali- ty and carbon-lorming tendency of the oil used to lubri- cate the compressor, Other factors regulating these intervals are prevailing dust, dirt and atmospheric conditions. How often the air filters are cleaned and serviced will also have a bearing on the valve inspec- tion and cleaning interval. Inspect andelean all he valves every 1000 hours or ev- ery four months, whichever occurs first, until experi- ence indicates the proper cleaning interval. Ifitis necessary to take a valve apart, note the manner in which the various parts are arranged so that proper relation of parts willbe followed in reassembling valve. “Tho untoader plunger o-rings must be lubricated with high temperature o-ring grease whenever the valves are serviced, Standard gun grease" is not suitable be- ‘cause it will vaporize or liquify and run out of the bore at operating temperatures. AX CAUTION Be absolutely sure that the valve disc is not pinched between the seat and bumper sothatitcannotlift. When re- placing a valve, see that the seat gas- ket is in good shape. ifthe gasket is damaged, install a new one. ‘When reinstalling the valves, one drop of #290 Loctite may be used on the threads to ensure that the valve does not loosen in operation. Valves and valve seats must be kept clean. The pres ‘ence of any deposit on valves indicates that either in- take airis dirty or the wrong kind of oil is being used. It isa goodidea to have spare valve assemblies avail- able. If complete suction and discharge valves are car- tied as spares, the operator will be able to remove and replace a valve in minimum time and can clean the dirty valve at leisure, STANDARD DIMENSIONS & RUNNING CLEARANCES UNIT COLD ( (Now Parts) Compressor Le HP Cylinder Bore... : z 4750/4751 2,500/2.501 Piston Ring Land Diameter ......sseeceveeseee = 4722/4717 2.481/2.476 Piston to Cylinder (At Ring Land)... Unless Specified Otherwise OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS ‘The GardnerDenver Unloader Pilot is a constant pressure regulator and is connected to the air receiver through the union furnished with pilot. The side outlet is connected to the suction unloading valves in the air compressor. This Unloader Pilot has two adjustments: one for controlling the pressure at which it is desired to unload the compressor, and the other to adjust the range or difference in pressure between the unloading and the loading pressures. To adjust the unloading pressure, loosen locknut AAB83 and turn adjusting screw 'AAB86 clockwise to raise the unloading pressure; tum it counterclockwise to lower the unloading pressure, ‘The range is sot at the factory to about ten pounds and should not be tampered with unless absolutely necessary. To increase the range, unscrew cap 4AAB78 and remove one shim 77A133. To decrease the range, add a shim. . If the Unloadér Pilot sticks, or flutters, take it apart and clean thoroughly in gasoline. Be sure to clean strainer by removing and washing thoroughly in’ gasoline. Be sure tat it is replaced ai if iS important that no foreign matter enter the valve chamber. For hand unloading, turn knurled hand unloader knob AAB85 until its lower face rests upon the upper face of adjusting screw AAB86, This action raises guide 3AAB82 and prevents valve 2AAB87 from seating, thereby holding the compressor valves in an unloading position, To adjust’ the hand unloader, loosen nut 50Y1 and screw valve guide 3AAB82 in or out as desired, holding hand unloader knob AAB85. When proper adjustment is made, tighten 50Y1. In case of unsatisfactory operation, the following points should be checked in the order given: 1. Remove filter element 5E2, clean in gasoline and reassemble. 2. Check compressor suction unloading valves. 3. Remove receiver air line at pilot; blow out oil, sludge, scale, ete. 4. Disassemble entire piloe, wash in gasoline and reassemble. 5. In case of major repair work, it is recommended that the pilot be returned to the Gardner-Denver factory at Quincy, Illinois, due two the special tools and testing equipment required co lap and align the seating surface.
