Pedagogical Approach: Teacher led
Learner’s Previous Students know about the pyramids of Egypt. They have a little
Knowledge knowledge about Egypt
Target Knowledge for this Egypt Location and extent Egypt Culture & Tradition information about
Topic Mummies-The history of Pharaoh
Learning Goals
More complex Goal- Students will be able to understand the ancient period of a foreign country.
Target Learning Goal- Students will be able to gain knowledge about ancient Egyptian culture & tradition
and various life styles.
Simpler Learning Goal- Students will develop effective reading skills.
Learning Objective:
Show them Annexure 1A, and point out where Egypt is on the world map. There are
two major features in Egypt – the Sahara Desert – that is the largest desert in the world,
and the river Nile, the longest river in the world.
Ask them if they know anything about ancient Egypt and listen patiently to their
answers.
Then, ask the students to take out Annexure 1B. The story will be displayed on the
screen in Annexure 1A, and the students can follow it in their worksheet.
Play video Annexure 1C and let the students sing along the song. Play this video
in the beginning of all the plans for 5 minutes.
Lesson middle – 60 Read out the story with the students. Stop to explain difficult words to them.
minutes
Use an animated voice, and make the story exciting for the students.
After every slide, ask them if they have understood, and if they have any
questions.
Discuss difficult word meanings with them and ask them to write down the
meanings in the worksheet.
Class: 3 Interdisciplinary Project Topic: Egypt
If their questions can be answered with the story itself, work with the students to
answer them. For more complex questions, make a list on the side where you can
address all the questions at the end.
Solve each of the questions in the worksheet with the students. The purpose of the
questions is to check for understanding, to make sure that all the students have
understood the text.
Lesson conclusion – Conclude the lesson by asking the students if they have any questions discussing
10 minutes ancient Egypt with them.
Learning Objective:
• To enable students to improve their vocabulary
If the story reading hasn’t been completed, use Annexure 1A and complete
Annexure 2B. Take your time with the class. It is essential that the students
understand the entire story.
Lesson Middle – 20 Display Annexure 2A. Ask them to make a similar grid in their notebooks. This
minutes. activity is to check their recall of difficult word meanings.
There is vocabulary list of 15 words. Display that on Screen. Ask them to write
down the 9 words that they know the meaning of best in their notebooks. Each
student can choose any 9 words that they wish and write it in any order.
Then begin the word tambola! The teacher must read out the definition, and the
students must say what word it is the definition of. If they have that word in their
grid, they can mark it.
There can be a winner of the first row, middle row, last row and full house till the
teacher has read out the definition of all 15 words.
Class: 3 Interdisciplinary Project Topic: Egypt
Lesson conclusion Then, ask the students to take out the maze Annexure 2C and let them find a way
– 10 minutes through the sphinx of Giza.
Lesson 3 – Hindi

vastuen ab vishv ke anek sanghralaya mein rakhi gayi hai.
Kalpana kare ki aap bhi ek purtatveta hai. Har vastu ke liye hame jitney zyada shabd

Lesson middle Ask the students to look at worksheet 3B and display slide show of Annexure 3A. Show
– 60 minutes the first slide. Discuss the possible adjectives (describing words) with the whole class
5. Kya aapke paas is vastu ke prati koi jaankari hai? Veh kya hai? (previous
knowledge)
For each object give the students 1 minute to write down as many words as they can about
the object. Then when the time is up, start with the first student who reads out the first
word. If anyone else has the same word, all must put a mark near it. Then the next
student reads a word, and so on. In the end, if there are any students with a word that no
one else has, they get a star. (This is like the game boggle).
Each student must write minimum 4 words. Make it a game so that the students
enjoy it!
Yaad rakhe, isme koi sahi ya galat jawab nahi hai. Sabse zaroori hai ke bache har
vastu ko dhyan se dekhe. Unhe spelling mein madad karein.
There is no correct answer. Accept all answers from students. The idea is that
students should be able to express themselves.
Is prakaar, unhe baarah vastu dikha kar 3B worksheet complete kare.

Lesson Welcome the students to the online class and ask them what they remember about
Introduction – what they have studied in the previous lessons about Egypt and all the stories about
5 minutes it. Tell them that today they will be completing one fun math worksheet and doing a
science experiment!
Lesson Middle 30 Ask students to look at worksheet 4A. Explain to the student the concept of
minutes pyramid math. It involves basic addition and subtraction.
Use the first few examples to explain to students how to do it. Gradually, tell
them the concept of how the count progressively increases.
Then, tell them that now they will begin preparing for a science experiment!
In ancient Egypt, when somebody died, they were buried with all their
belongings. Mummies were made of pharaohs to preserve their bodies.
As discussed earlier, the process of creating a mummy has the following steps –
Review this briefly with the students. Do they know what the special fluid
contained? It is something very similar to what we would find in our kitchens today.
Let us do an experiment of what it is!
Tell them to put on their scientist hats and become scientists! They must now
behave like scientists!
Instead of using human bodies, we will use apples! What happens if an apple is left
out after being cut for very long? Listen to the student’s answers. An apple tends to
go brown when it is cut and left out.
Will anything change if we try and preserve it? Two substances we will test with
are – salt and sugar! Simple preservatives found in all our homes.
Ask the students to look at– Worksheet 4B, and bring three cups, labels, magnifying
glass and three slices of an apple.
Class: 3 Interdisciplinary Project Topic: Egypt
Then, they must complete worksheet 4B. Here, they must draw all three slices, and
use colours effectively. Then they must measure the slices using their rulers. If they
want to measure more than length (width and depth) encourage them to do so.
They can observe the apple with a magnifying glass and draw what they see in their
worksheet.
They must then guess which apple will be best preserved. Remember that this is
a guess and there is no right or wrong answer at this stage.
Then, the students must tell the teacher as they finish. Ask the parents to help the
students. Tell the students to make sure that the salt and sugar completely cover
the apple.
Tell the students put all three cups of the student in one plate and cover them with
another plate. Put it in a safe place where it can rest for 1 week. It should not be
disturbed!
Note – Please make sure it is covered and in a place where ants etc are not there.
Naphthalene balls can be placed near the experiment as an extra precaution but it
is not necessary.
Tell the students that now they will look at it again next week.
This should take not more than 15 minutes to complete for all students.
Lesson End – 5 Make sure that all the students have completed their worksheet and have
minutes understood all the concepts. This is most important.
Conclude the lesson by clearing any doubts the students may have.

Ask them to carefully remove the apple slices from all glasses. They can place
them neatly in the plate.
Then, ask them to document their findings in the worksheet 5A. They must describe
the state of all the three apples, and draw them as accurately as possible. They can
use their magnifying glasses for a closer look.
They must comment on the colour and use their rulers to check the size and if
Once they complete this activity, ask them, what do they think was in the special
fluid used by Egyptians to make mummies? Salt or sugar?
As and when the students complete this, ask them open worksheet 5B.
This involves some more multiplication. Once they finish solving their sums they
can begin coloring the worksheet. The colouring is a great way for them to peer
review their work.
Give them ample time to complete this.
Lesson End – Once this is complete, ask the students their favourite parts about Ancient Egypt
15 minutes and what they liked the most!
Make sure that all the students have completed their two worksheets and have
understood all the concepts. This is most important.
