Passages from the Holy Quran

b) Surah Humazah (The Traducer)

Surah / Chapter No. 104 Total Verses: 9

Period of Revelation:

All commentators agree that it is a

Makki Surah. A study of its subject
matter and style shows that this
too is one of the earliest Surahs to
be revealed in Makkah.

Theme and Subject Matter:

This Surah talks about materialism

and those who hoard money.

Every Arab knew that

accumulating wealth was an evil
prevalent in their society. Nobody
regarded it as something good. In
this Surah, attention is called
towards this evil and the ultimate
end in the Hereafter of those
people who possess this ugly
character.

We see around ourselves people

who own almost every blessing that one can only dream out. We see them flourishing and
prospering even though they are disbelievers or not on the Right Path. We wonder if Allah is
pleased with them. By revealing this Surah, Allah has clarified this misconception.

He asks us not to be deceived by what we see in this world. For He is only giving them leave for a
temporary period. What awaits them in the Hereafter, one would not even want to talk about.
