TEXAS FRENCH SYMPOSIUM

JUDGES' INSTRUCTIONS
DRAMA GROUP

1. The groups will enter the room one at a time on a first-come, first-served basis and place a TFS
identification label on the group list for each member of the group. If a student does not have a label,
the student must fill in the information on the group list. (Name and TFS ID #).

2. The group must provide the judge(s) with an unmarked, printed, paper copy of the excerpt from a
play. If the copy does not include the title and the author of the play, the group must be
disqualified from the event. NOTE: Showing the excerpt on an electronic device is not permitted.

3. Each group will be judged on the performance: NO COSTUMES OR PROPS WILL BE ALLOWED.

4. Please observe the 5 to10-minute time limit. Time the group, indicating the total time of the
presentation on the ballot. Groups who exceed the 10-minute time limit or who do not reach
the 5-minute minimum will receive a reduction in points and/or be disqualified from the event.

5. Groups will be judged on an excerpt from a play. Memorization is required. The group (and the
individual group members) will also be judged on pronunciation, interpretation of the role, voice,
physical communication, group dynamic, appropriateness of the selection (length and difficulty)
for the level, and overall performance.

6. Total the points and rank the groups (places 1 through 8) as indicated on the group evaluation sheet.
#1 is the best overall group. There may be NO ties.

7. Please write at least one positive comment for each group.

8. Fill out and sign the final result sheet.

9. Please remain in the room until the end of the scheduled event, even though you may not
have groups waiting to be judged. Do not make your final rankings until the end of the
scheduled event.

10. Turn in all materials: (ballots, group list, and result sheet) to the Ballot Room (Library)
immediately upon completion of the event.

JUDGES:

PLEASE DO NOT INTERRUPT THE STUDENTS ONCE THEY HAVE STARTED THE PRESENTATION.
