TEXAS FRENCH SYMPOSIUM

JUDGES' INSTRUCTIONS
INSTRUMENTAL SOLO

1. The students will enter the room one at a time on a first-come, first-served basis and place a TFS
identification label on the ballot. If a student does not have a label, the student must fill out the top
portion of the ballot (Name and TFS ID #).

2. The student will provide the judge(s) with an unmarked, printed, paper copy of the music. Failure
to include both the title and the composer on the printed copy will result in disqualification. NOTE:
Showing the music on an electronic device is not permitted.

3. The music does not need to be memorized. Pianos for accompaniment will not be permitted.
Recorded accompaniment provided by the student is permitted; however, unaccompanied
performances are equally acceptable.

4. Students will be evaluated based on tone, technique, interpretation, stage presence, and
overall effectiveness of the performance.

5. Please observe the 5-minute time limit. Time the student, indicating the total time of the
performance on the ballot.

6. Total the points and rank the students (places 1 through 8) as indicated on the individual
evaluation sheet. #1 is the best overall performance. There may be NO ties.

7. Please write at least one positive comment for each student.

8. Fill out and sign the final result sheet.

9. Please remain in the room until the end of the scheduled event, even though you may not
have students waiting to be judged. Do not make your final rankings until the end of the
scheduled event.

10. Turn in all materials: (ballots and result sheet) to the Ballot Room (Library) immediately upon
completion of the event.

JUDGES:

PLEASE DO NOT INTERRUPT THE STUDENTS ONCE THEY HAVE STARTED THE PERFORMANCE.
