Future Goals and Plans

Purpose: Entrance Essay
 The future career that I want is an Information Security Specialist. As I grew up, as
many other children my age, I learnt knew things and had many new experiences. I began
taking a deep interest in technology and how it worked. I have believed for a long time that
the world needs order to operate at maximum efficiency. However, I cannot realistically
change the world all by myself. Focusing on something that I can shape to a specific role in
someone’s computer, home or business is where I do have power to make a difference.
In high school I was always at the top of my class in computer studies. I took my BJC
and IGCSE early and passed with A’s. I enjoyed computer Apps and I had an opportunity to
join a computer honors class. I am now in a new course for the Microsoft Office Specialist
(MOS) Certification exam. Working with a computer is something I have done since
childhood, and it has positively impacted my life and brought me closer to so many people.
Jeff Bezos once said, “You don’t choose your passions; your passions choose you.” These
words inspire me to find a career path where I can do what I love and make a difference.
The first person to introduce me to programming was my friend who was mentored by
a guy going by the moniker WonderWulf. This led to a passion for gaming and programming.
More recently, I along with some school friends, a friend that I met online and my cousin,
who all share my love for technology, have worked together on developing drafts of games
and websites using engines such as Unity and Roblox studio and programming languages
such as Lua, C++, Java, and Python. Although our projects were not received as well as we
would have liked, we continued to practice. We all knew that our ability was limited and
needed a deeper dive into the world of 3D animation and programming to make our visions
really come to life.
When I began the search for a career field, I started with something close to home. I
looked at areas in music and gaming. I was very unsure as to what I would do because I had
never thought about anything specific. However, I started to narrow down my options and
gaming turned into Software Development, then Software Development into Database
analyst and finally from Database analyst to Information Security Specialist. In the world of
Cyber Security, work is never boring. Technology is ever changing and there need to be ways
to counteract the increase of cyber-attacks that come with this constant change. Knowing that
this benefits people’s lives and jobs is just a plus.
What is interesting about Information Security is that it has a multitude of career
opportunities. Working in Cybersecurity is very fulfilling because of the frequent changes to
the methods and overall pace that adds to the challenge of solving various problems day to
day. To be on top of things you must be constantly learning different skills in Computer
Science like Firewalls and endpoint security or new computer languages like Python and
brushing up on old ones like Java.
To conclude, while it offers a wide variety of career and learning opportunities,
cybersecurity is a continuously growing field. I wish to gain an adept understanding of the
field and secure my spot in the Information Security field. As a result of this instruction, I
will be capable to help persons steer clear of cyber attacks by implementing security
measures.
