Dear Alumni,
Greetings!

Glad to present the next edition of ‘CASIANS,’ the PSG Arts Alumni
Newsletter. With students coming back to offline classes, we could see
light at the other end of the tunnel at the beginning of this quarter
after terms of lockdown and online classes. However, the end of 2021
witnessed the schools and colleges closing down again to ensure safety
of students, as well to curtail the spread of the new coronavirus variant,
Omicron, likely to spread much faster and easier than its precursors.
I would like to reiterate that we have to stand together and continue taking
precautionary measures to stay.

On the brighter side, we are proudly marching forward with the Platinum
Jubilee celebrations, marking 75 years of PSG College of Arts & Science.
I take pleasure in welcoming you all to be a part of the celebrations.

Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year, I pray almighty to give us
all the strength to take up challenges ahead. Wishing our dear alumni the

Dear PSG CAS Alumni,
Warm Greetings!
Happy to announce that PSG College of Arts & Science got 4 Star Rating for Annual
Performance in Institutions’ Innovation Council 2020-2021 by Ministry of Human
Resource Development in Education.

We are Happy to announce that PSG Arts Alumni Association will be contributing
substantially for the construction of an Open Air Stadium to be named “ALUMNI
PLANTINUM JUBILEE AUDITORIUM”. The Bhoomi Pooja for this project is scheduled
to be held on 25th January 2022 at 10.00 am.

The location of the proposed stadium is to the south of GRD Auditorium.

Graduates of 1992 – 1995 and 1993 – 1996 batches are busy with preparations for
their Silver Jubilee get-together scheduled to be held on 25th June 2022 and 9th
July 2022 respectively.

I take great pleasure in congratulating our alumnus Mr.Rajesh B. Lund, Executive

Committee Member 1980 – 1983 B.Com batch and Director of Srivari Property
Developers. SPD has won the ‘Developer of the year’ award for Rest of Tamil Nadu
excluding Chennai at the Prestigious FICCI Real Estate Awards Ceremony held at
Chennai on 14th December 2021 and Mr.T.Rajkumar, Former President, alumnus,
1985 – 1988 BA Economics and Chairman of Mahasakthi Mills Limited, Kerala and
Foundation One Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd., has been re-elected as Chairman of
Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).W

PSG Arts Alumni Association

PSG College of Arts & Science Alumni Association has a full-fledged office from the
year 2007. The Alumni Executive Committee meets once in three months. One of the
main purposes of our Alumni Association is to support a network of former graduates
who will, in turn, help to raise the profile of the college. They participate as mentors
and donors for the students. Alumni Association awards scholarships to meritorious
students. Every year, our alumni association celebrates Teachers’ Day and honors all
the past and present teachers of the college. It organizes two to three fund raising
programmes with the support of the Office Bearers and Committee Members to help
the students through scholarships. Number of alumni get-togethers and Silver Jubilee
Reunions are organized by the PSG Arts Alumni Association.

4th Rank in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Achievement in NPTEL Online Certification

Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) PSG CAS secured 7th rank at the all India
PSG CAS has attained 4 rank in the Atal Ranking

for the year 2021. Out of 3551 higher education 2021, as an active local chapter with a rating of

India Start-Up Day Celebrations

As part of India Start-Up Day Celebrations,
Institution’s Innovation Council in association with
Entrepreneurship Development Cell organized an I
Expo (Idea Expo) to identify feasible Start-up ideas
on 1st October 2021.

Manavar Manram (Aided)

The office bearers of Manavar Manram [Aided] were elected for the academic year 2021-2022.

Manavar Manram (Un-Aided)

The office bearers of Manavar Manram [SF] for the academic year 2021-22 were elected in two phases. The
Chairperson (Men), Chairperson (Women), Secretary (Men) and Secretary (Women) were elected among the
III UG, II UG and II PG student representatives on 13th October 2021 and the Joint Secretary (Men) and Joint
Secretary (Women) were elected among the I UG student representatives on 17th November 2021.

First Chapter Installation and Signing of MoU with ALERT Golden Army

The first chapter installation of the Golden ALERT Army along with the signing of the Memorandum of
Understanding with PSG CAS was held on 29th December 2021 in the GRD auditorium. The event was graced
by the presence of honourable dignitaries, Dr.Sameeran, IAS, District Collector, Coimbatore, Prof.P.Kaliraj, Vice

Innovation Patent by the Australian Government on 8th December 2021.

Vigilance Awareness Week

Vigilance Awareness Week 2021 was observed
from 26th October to 1st November 2021 with a
signature campaign labelled, ‘Independent India
@75: Self-Reliance with Integrity.’ The Special Guest,
Dr.M.S.Muthusamy, D.I.G. of Police, Coimbatore
Range, initiated the signature campaign. Dr.A.Shahin
Sultana, Professor, Department of Social work and
Dean – Student Welfare, Pondicherry University,
was the resource person.

Palalayam Vizha

Sri Sakthi Vinayagar and Sri Kalaivani Temple

Palalayam Vizha was celebrated on 7th and 8th
November 2021. Thiru.L.Gopalakrishnan, Managing

members graced the occasion.

UGC Consultative Discussion Forum on Revitalizing the Research Development Cell of

Higher Education Institutions towards sustainable Socio-Economic Development
The event was held on 15th November 2021 on Cisco Webex platform from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Dr.D.Brindha, Principal, welcomed the virtual gathering as the Member of UGC Expert Committee on
Research & Development Cell at HEI’s. The inaugural address was given by Prof.Ramesh Chander Kuhad,
Pro-Chancellor, SGT University, Gurugram, followed by opening remarks delivered by Prof.A.Ravindernath,
Former Dean, Osmania University, Telangana. The eminent key speakers, Prof.P.Kaliraj, Vice Chancellor
of Bharathiar University, Prof.S.P.Thiyagarajan, Chancellor of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science
& Higher Education for Women, Prof.W.Selvamurthy, Chancellor of Amity University, Chhattisgarh, Prof.

Kuruvilla Joseph, Professor and Dean, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram,
Prof.P.Kolandaivel, Former Vice-Chancellor of Periyar University, Ms.Maya Sreekumar, Vice President –
HR, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Coimbatore, and Prof.K.S.Subramanian, Director of Research  and

former NABARD Chair Professor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, shared their views on the
importance and ways of strengthening research culture in HEI’s to progress towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

Celebration of Constitution Day

Constitution Day was celebrated on 26th November 2021 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution
of India. Pledge was taken by students to be obliged and governed by the Constitution.

Pollution Control and Prevention

Department of Environmental Science in association with Institution’s Innovation Council organized a quiz
programme with regard to National Pollution Control Day on 2nd December 2021. Around 193 students
from several departments participated in the online quiz.

Wellness Drive for Faculty Members

Internal Quality Assurance Cell in association with the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics organized a
‘Wellness Drive’ to support the staff on 3rd December 2021 at Brahmam hall. The event was organized to
analyze the body composition, bone mineral density and diet counseling along with relaxation techniques,
yoga and varma therapy.

Covid Vaccination Drive

Covid Vaccination Drive was organized on 4th
December 2021 at Brahmam hall in association with
PSG IMS&R. Students and faculty members who
were due for the 2nd dose and those who had not
been vaccinated with the first dose were vaccinated
in this drive. Both Covaxin and Covishield were made
available to a total of 166 members including 96
students, 30 faculty and 40 supporting staff.

Homage to Martyrs

The management, faculty members and students of PSG CAS paid homage on 10th December 2021 to CDS
General Bipin Rawat and 12 other martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the IAF chopper crash. The event was
organized by the 2TN Artillary NCC Battery.

Quiz Contest on International Energy Conservation Day

Department of Electronics organized a Quiz Contest on International Energy Conservation Day themed:
1. Importance of Energy and Energy Conservation, and 2. Conserve Energy and Save the Future for the
department students on 14th December 2021.

Signature Campaign on ‘National Energy Conservation Day’

Department of Electronics [SF] and Department of Environmental Science in association with the Institution’s
Innovation Council organized a signature campaign on 14th December 2021 as an awareness programme
on ‘National Energy Conservation Day’ to sensitize students on global warming and climate change, and to
promote conserving energy resources.

Art Competition Themed ‘Conserve to Preserve’

Department of Environmental Science in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council organized an
art competition on the theme, ‘Conserve to Preserve’ on 14th December 2021 at 12:00 Noon as part of
National Energy Conservation Day.

INFOTAIN’21

INFOTAIN’21, a virtual inter-departmental carnival was organized by the Manavar Manram (SF) from 15th to
18th December 2021. Events like debate, flip of a coin, breaking news writer and voice of CAS were conducted
for students from various departments

National Mathematics Day and National Science Day Celebrations

Department of Mathematics with Computer Applications in association with Institution’s Innovation Council
organized various events on behalf of National Mathematics Day and National Science Day on 16th & 17th
December 2021. Quiz, word war of Math and Science, connection, dumb charades were conducted and
around 143 students participated.

E-Collage Competition for ‘Energy Conservation Day’

Department of Botany (SF) in association with Institution’s Innovation council organized an e-collage
competition on 23rd December 2021 on Energy Conservation Day themed ‘Rewatt Energy.’

Motivational Speech for Students

The Third Hand Club and 2T Artlllery Battery

NCC organised an online motivational talk on the
topic, ‘Achieve Success by Having the Skills You
Have.’ Mr.Naveen Manickam, Founder of Krishna
Advertisement, Coimbatore, was the resource person.
A total of 113 participants included 16 specially-abled
persons.

National Innovation Day Celebration

Institution’s Innovation Council, PSG CAS organized National Innovation Day celebrations on 15th October
2021, to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial/ societal problems. Around 60 research
scholars from various departments participated in the event.

Faculty Development Programmes 2021-22

As part of Platinum Jubilee Celebrations (1997–2021), in association with PSG Center for Academic Research
and Excellence (PSG CARE) 13 departments organised virtual Faculty Development Programmes (FDP) of 30
hours each, from September to December 2021 on Google Meet and CISCO Webex platforms. Dr.D.Brindha,
Principal, delivered the presidential address and Dr.R.Rudramoorthy, Director, PSG CARE felicitated the
programmes.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
Retail Employees’ Day 2021

Retail Employees’ Day 2021 was organized on 13th December 2021 by the Department of Management
Science - Retail Management to motivate the students to take up successful careers in retailing. The resource
person, Mr.T.Chandrasekar, Area Business Manager, Tanishq (a Tata Enterprise), Chennai, delivered an e-talk
on retailing strategies adopted by Tanishq Jewellery. Management games like Brand Trail, Trickle-O-Brain
and Fun-O-Blast were conducted to explore the talents of the students and develop the innate skills in them.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
As part of curriculum, various extension activities like Swachhta, tree plantation, awareness programs on
blood grouping, nutrition analysis, water analysis; welfare measures like blood donation, food donation;
good laboratory practices on various concepts were carried out. Around 2934 students participated in 3790
such activities.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
National Cadet Corps
National Cadet Corps (NCC), the youth wing of Indian Armed Forces and the largest uniformed youth
organization in the world, observed the 73rd anniversary of its raising on 28th November 2021. NCC day is
celebrated every year on the 4th Sunday in November throughout the country with cadets participating in
marches, blood donation camps and social development programmes.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

Mr.B.Prabhu, PGDHRM and Mr.P.Nishanth, III B.A Economics, secured Gold Medals in the Asian Open
Powerlifting Championship held at Istanbul, Turkey from 20th to 22nd December 2021. Thiru.M.K.Stalin,
Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu received them at the Secretariat.
