In recent times, there has been a huge improvement in the healthcare system.

As a
result, there has been an increase in life expectancy in several countries all over the
world. In my opinion, this phenomenon has both advantages and disadvantages. In
this essay, I will discuss both sides of this view as well as giving my opinion.

On the one hand, the dramatic increase in the length of life has brought us many
benefits in many aspects. Firstly, it is assumed that a longer life will get people more
time to enjoy their life. People spend most of their youth doing work and saving for
their family; therefore, when they get older, they need time to enjoy all their effort
when they were younger. As the healthcare systems are improved much more than
previously, elderly will experience better services and their illness will also be
reduced.

On the other hand, longer lifespan will also lead to some drawbacks. As life
expectancy is increasing day by day, it can lead to overpopulation which is a big
concern for authorities today. As a consequence, there will not be enough
accommodation and services to fulfill people’s demands. There will be a remarkable
rise in the budget that the government provides for the elderly after they retire; it can
be much more serious in some third-world countries such as Latin America, Africa,
etc.

In conclusion, life expectancy increase can bring some advantages to people,

especially for those who did not have time to enjoy life when they were young;
however, it could cause some drawbacks such as financial issues to the authorities or
overpopulation.
