IV. Analyse the following sentences by means of Descriptive Linguistics
(3 marks)
E.g. I’m glad that my mother made me take piano lessons when I was a child.
M 1 : I’m glad
S 1 : that my mother made me take piano lessons: noun clause, complement of “glad”
S.1.1 : when I was a child: adverbial clause, modifying ‘made’.
1. Often a customer struggling to decide which of two items is best ends up not
buying either, so in order to avoid a situation where a customer decides not to
buy either product, a third “decoy” item, which is not quite as good as the
other two, is placed beside them to make the choice easier and more
pleasurable.
