Chapter 3

Method and Procedure

This chapter presents the method of research, subject of the study,

sample and sampling technique, research tools and instruments, validation of
survey questionnaires, data gathering procedure, and statistical treatment of
data.

Method of Research
The method of this research that researchers will be used is descriptive
method in order to assess the effects of health anxiety in adapting to a new
normal among Grade 12 SHS students of
As cited by Zulueta (2003), this type of research is the most
appropriate method because it seeks to provide information about one or
more variables. It is used to answer the question “what exists”.

Subject of the Study

The subject of the study will be focus on the Grade 12 Senior High
School students of High School. The researchers will have a certain number
of respondents in each strand to achieve the goal total of samples.

Table 1 Distribution of Respondents by Strand

Strand Population Sample Distribution

GAS 30 5 2.5%
HUMSS 42 25 12.5%
STEM 36 10 5%
ABM 29 10 5%
Total 137 40 25%

The table shown above shows the distribution of respondents by

strand, the researchers will spread their sample per strand consisting 12.5%
for the strand of HUMSS, 5% for the strand of STEM and ABM, and 2.5% for
the strand of GAS distribution with the total of 25%. The samples per strand
consists of 10 students for STEM, and ABM students, 25 students for HUMSS
students, and 5 students for GAS students.

Sample and Sampling Technique

In order to measure the acceptability of the study, the researchers will
survey Grade 12 SHS students of High School and use a random sampling -
means the researchers will randomly choose respondents in each strand.

Research Tools and Instruments

The following instrument will be used by the researchers in the said
study:

Online Survey Questionnaires - This was the primary instrument that

the researchers will going to use to accomplish the said study. The first part of
questionnaire will be allotted by the information about the study that will be
given to the respondents by the researchers. This part is necessary for them
to be informed about the consent of the study. The second part of the
questionnaire will contain about the information of the respondents,
specifically the names, age, gender and most important the respondents
strand. This part is a big help to the researchers to assess their respective
respondents. Lastly, the third part or supposed to be the last part of the
questionnaire will be the piece of the survey that contain about the effects of
health anxiety in adapting to a new normal among Grade 12 SHS students of
Manuel G. Araullo High School.

Validation of Survey Questionnaire

The following shown below are the survey questions made by the
researchers:

1. Do you experience Anxiety often?

- Yes
- No
- Maybe

2. Do you experience Anxiety while you are in online class?

- Yes
- No
- Others/Maybe

3. Do you think health anxiety as one of the struggles of the students

especially nowadays?
- Yes
- No
- Maybe

4. Did you ever realize/said to yourself that the Internet is one of the causes
why you experienced mental health issues most of the time?
- Yes
- No
-Maybe

5. Do you often have been bothered by feeling nervous or anxious cause by

new normal learning?
- Yes
- No
- Maybe

6. Do you find new normal learning hard?

- Yes
- No
- Maybe

7. Do you think that technology or social media is the reason why you forgot
to take care of yourself?
- Yes
- No
- Maybe

8. How does health anxiety affect your perspective in life?

ANSWER:

9. What did you think the best way you can do to avoid/prevent yourself to
experience/feel mental health issues such as anxiety?
ANSWER:

______________________________________________________________

10. How did you respond to it? What did you do?
ANSWER:

Data Gathering Procedure

The following steps are the data gathering procedure of the researchers in the
said study:

1. Planning for the research study - this will include the whole processof brain
storming among members to come up with a proper, clear, and organiized
study.

2. Selecting respondents/ Subject of the Study - in finding the respondents is

significant in this study to assert and justify the study done by the researchers,
biasness will not be executed in choosing the respondents.

3. Preparing and validating the survey questions - through the approval of -

the III teacher of the researchers, approval is necessary for the validation of
the survey questionnaire before distributing it to the respondents.

4. Conducting the survey process - followed by the validation of questions, the

survey will be done by the researchers.
5. Compiled and sorted the collected data - after conducting the survey
through online, all the data gathered will be complied by the researchers.

6. Analyzing and Interpreted the collected data - this will be done right after
the data gathered the researchers’ analysis about the gathered data will hold.
Analyzing and interpreted every detail of the response or answer of the
respondents is necessary.
Statistical Treatment of Data

1. Weighted Mean - A means that is calculated with the extra weight given to
one or more sample elements.

Formula of Weighted Mean are:

x = weighted mean
Ʃ = summation
f = frequency
x1 = weight of the scale
N = number of respondents

2. Likert Scale - To determine the assessment of every respondents prior to

the given survey questionnaires. It will be use to answer sub-problems that
may occur. The interpretation of the statistical treatment is as follows:

Option Marks Range Interpretation

3 2.49 - 3.00 Yes
2 1.20 - 2. 49 No
1 1.00 - 1.19 Maybe

3. Simple Average Method - As the name suggests, simple average of a set of

values is determined by dividing the sum total of all the values by the number
of values in the set. Formula of Simple Average Method:

P = f/N x 100

P = percentage
f = frequency
N = overall of respondents
