Presidential Proclamation No. 683, signed by then-President Corazon Aquino in 1991,

declares February as National Arts Month every year to celebrate artistic excellence and pay
tribute to the uniqueness and diversity of the Filipino heritage and culture. This year’s National
Arts Month theme “Sining ng Pag-asa” aims to recognize arts as a source and expression of hope
as shown in the creative ways we respond to the effects of the pandemic, natural calamities, and
other social realities, as well as the arts’ role in improving our community life as Filipinos.
To take part in the month-long celebration, Malabon National High School’s Special
Program in the Arts organized a program to promote various forms of art and showcase great
performances by talented SPA students, under the supervision of their respective SPA teachers.
The celebration formally started with an opening program conducted at 2:00 in the afternoon of
February 7, 2022 through the online platform Google Meet, and a live stream on MNHS
Facebook page. The opening program began with an energetic greeting from the master of
ceremony, Mr. Alvin Martinez from MAPEH Department, a doxology performed by students
from SPA Theater Arts and Tanghalang Bagong Sibol, under the direction of Mr. Anthony Cruz,
SPA Theater Arts Teacher and Tanghalang Bagong Sibol Trainer. It was followed by the singing
of nationalistic song led by Shamae Lawrence Erabon of 9-SPA Vocal with the guidance of SPA
Vocal Teacher, Ms. Paberly Ursal. An audio-visual presentation of Malabon Hymn and Division
Hymn followed afterwards. Mrs. Jecylin A. Santos, Department Head of MAPEH thanked and
welcomed the participants as she deliver her opening remarks, followed by an inspirational
message from our supportive school principal, Dr. Maria Victoria R. De Gulan. After that, a
graceful performance of Sala Ti Mais by MNHS-Hiyas ng Sining Folkloric Dance Troupe under
the direction of their trainer Mr. Robert John Patag was presented. It was followed by a
motivation message from the Education Program Supervisor of MAPEH, Ms. Lynette O.
Cipriano. The participants were calmed as Janalyn C. Calahi from 8-SPA V performed a
heartwarming song Magsimula ka. The program continued with the presentation of the upcoming
activities, presented by Mrs. Maikka Espanto-Lalantacon, MAPEH and SPA Instrument Teacher.
The recent years have been full of hardships and challenges caused by the pandemic, but
it's encouraging to see that it hasn't hampered people's creativity; rather, people's love for the arts
has become a tool to help us overcome the challenges we face. The final performance in the
opening program was from the theater arts, who interpreted the song Bagong Umaga. It was
followed by the closing remarks given by one of the Master Teacher of MAPEH Department and
the SPA Coordinator, Mr. Robert John Patag.
