Information Sheet On Importation of Pet Food
Please check that the importation of pet food from your country to the EU/Germany is permitted. In
principle, food for pets and ornamental fish which contains animal by-products may only be
imported from third countries which fulfil the conditions of Chapter II Section 1, Table 2, No 12 of
Regulation (EG) 142/2011 in the respective valid version. The pet food companies must be approved in
accordance with EU law. You will find a list of the approved third country companies at:
https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/sanco/traces/output/non_eu_listsPerActivity_en.htm#.
If pet food is to be imported for exhibition purposes from unlisted third countries/unlisted companies,
prior to this an import licence must be applied for at the ministry responsible for the Border Inspection
Post. For imports via Munich / Frankfurt Airport the responsible authorities are:
Munich:
Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Umwelt und Gesundheit
Rosenkavalierplatz 2
81925 München
poststelle@stmug.bayern.de
Frankfurt:
Hessisches Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz
veteinfuhr@hmuelv.hessen.de
For imports via Hamburg / Bremen port the responsible authorities are:

20539 Hamburg
veterinaerwesen@bgv.hamburg.de
Bremen:
Der Senator für Gesundheit

This pet food may then be imported into Germany for display purposes only and must be rendered
harmless and disposed of at the importer’s expense at the end of the exhibition.

registered for inspection by the official veterinarian at an approved Border Inspection Post by
means of a CVED (Common Veterinary Entry Document) in accordance with Regulation (EC)

containing animal by-products is not possible via Nuremberg Airport.
Pet food exclusively intended for exhibiting and display purposes is not affected by this regulation, but
such products must be returned to the country of origin or verifiably destroyed after the end of the
exhibition.
Special regulations apply to feed for animals that provide human food.
