INFORMATION SHEET ON IMPORTATION OF PET FOOD

1. Importation of pet food which contains animal by-products

From which countries is importation possible?

Please check that the importation of pet food from your country to the EU/Germany is permitted. In
principle, food for pets and ornamental fish which contains animal by-products may only be
imported from third countries which fulfil the conditions of Chapter II Section 1, Table 2, No 12 of
Regulation (EG) 142/2011 in the respective valid version. The pet food companies must be approved in
accordance with EU law. You will find a list of the approved third country companies at:
https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/sanco/traces/output/non_eu_listsPerActivity_en.htm#.

If pet food is to be imported for exhibition purposes from unlisted third countries/unlisted companies,
prior to this an import licence must be applied for at the ministry responsible for the Border Inspection
Post. For imports via Munich / Frankfurt Airport the responsible authorities are:

Munich:
Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Umwelt und Gesundheit
Rosenkavalierplatz 2
81925 München
poststelle@stmug.bayern.de

Frankfurt:
Hessisches Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz
veteinfuhr@hmuelv.hessen.de

For imports via Hamburg / Bremen port the responsible authorities are:

Hamburg:
Behörde für Gesundheit und Verbraucherschutz
Billstraße 80
20539 Hamburg
veterinaerwesen@bgv.hamburg.de

Bremen:
Der Senator für Gesundheit
Bahnhofsplatz 29
28195 Bremen
verbraucherschutz@gesundheit.bremen.de

This pet food may then be imported into Germany for display purposes only and must be rendered
harmless and disposed of at the importer’s expense at the end of the exhibition.

borders.

After prior registration (at least one working day beforehand), each shipment of pet food must be
registered for inspection by the official veterinarian at an approved Border Inspection Post by
means of a CVED (Common Veterinary Entry Document) in accordance with Regulation (EC)
136/2004). Importation without any previous veterinary inspection is not permitted. Please ensure that
you contact your import forwarding agent in good time.

Products can be imported into Germany via the German seaports of Hamburg or Bremen or the
airports of destination Frankfurt or Munich (Master-AWB). Imports via other approved EU Border
Inspection Posts are also possible. Other Border Inspection Posts are listed in Decision 2009/821 /EC
in the respective valid version.

The airport of destination in the prepared House AWB is Nuremberg. The import of pet foods
containing animal by-products is not possible via Nuremberg Airport.

2. The following applies to ALL imported and circulated pet foods:

Pet food may only be brought into circulation in Germany or placed on the German market if it complies
with the German and European legal regulations. In particular, pet food may only contain additives that
are approved by EU law. The act of handing over pet food constitutes its bringing into circulation,
regardless of whether products are sold or provided free of charge.

Pet food exclusively intended for exhibiting and display purposes is not affected by this regulation, but
such products must be returned to the country of origin or verifiably destroyed after the end of the
exhibition.

Special regulations apply to feed for animals that provide human food.
