Black Hat Analysis

There are many factors which cause delays of the trains in India. They are mostly infrastructure related
like unavailability of platforms, lack of platforms to accommodate longer trains, etc. or technology
related like failure of signal system, breakdown of railway tracks, loose coupling etc. Sometimes weather
conditions like extreme rain, low visibility due to fog is also responsible for delays of trains. We have
found some solutions to these problems like adapting to European Train Control System-2 (ETCS2). It
would help in increasing the train speed and thus compensate for some delay time. Also we are planning
to implement two level railway tracks so that we can create more tracks without the need for extra land.
Along with this, we are also planning to use principles of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things
(IOT) to automate many tasks which are done manually like signaling system. Most of these methods
are new and hence they come with their own set of risks.

First thing which comes to our minds is that to create a better infrastructure, a lot of capital investment
is required. Indian railways passenger segment mostly runs in losses so which makes financial problem
worse. Secondly, to work on the new technologies, a lot of highly trained and expert professionals are
required therefore requires recruitment of manpower. Also as mentioned above that these technologies
are new and varying demographics of India add to the complexities hence they require rigorous testing.

Action Plan:

The problem of delays in Indian Railway is since the beginning and they had achieved 100% punctuality
only once that too was just for one day in their entire operational years. This was due to a global
pandemic which caused lesser train movements when only 230 passenger trains were operating out of
around 13,000 passenger trains on a regular basis. So we have come up with an action plan for the
upcoming three years where we will try to improve the delay problem of Indian Railways and hopefully
in coming times, India can be one of the countries where trains are always on time.

We have divided each year in two halves of 6 months and these halves will serve as checkpoints where
we can analyze our progress.

 In the first half of 2022, we have planned the recruitment of the entire necessary workforce that
we will require to achieve our mission. Also we will apply for all the permission needed to carry
out our development processes.
 In the second half of 2022, we will be acquired with all the permissions and we will begin the
designing phase of the infrastructure both technical and architectural. By the end of 6 months,
the construction work will begin at for the places where design has been confirmed.
 In the first half of 2023, we will review the progress at construction sites and also start with the
implementation of technical equipment.
 By the end of second half of 2023, we are planning to complete all the construction and start
testing phase.
 In the first half of 2024, we will review the test report and start working on any discrepancies
found during testing.
 And by the end of 2024 we will deliver the system to Indian Railways.
