5.4.3 Tension The test shall be carried out on finished ISO 7961 Q 5
fatigue bolts.

to the following:
a) protruding head bolts of nominal
length < 3 D;
b) countersunk head bolts of nominal
length < 3 D or bolts having a
nominal length < 18 mm.
Life:
— mean value:
min. 65 000 cycles
— individual value:
min. 45 000 cycles
max. 1 30 000 cycles
Frequency: 140 Hz max.
Loads: see Table 7.
For individual fatigue life values
less than 65 000 cycles, the breaking:
a) shall occur in the thread in the case
of parts with full or pitch diameter
shanks;
b) is acceptable in the groove or
relieved diameter for such parts;
c) is not allowed in the underhead
fillet radius.
For individual fatigue life values
exceeding 65 000 cycles, breaking may
occur in any place.
Unbroken bolts shall be rendered
unusable.
5.4.4 Hardness Before surface coating is applied, the ISO 6508 Q 4
hardness shall be:
a) uniform for the same bolt;
b) within the range 36 HRC
to 45 HRC.
The hardness of the threads and the
head to shank fillet area may be higher.
The hardness at the end of the bolt A Table 8,
(thread end) thread shall be 36 HRC column B
to 45 HRC.
