1 SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate

1.1 Introduction
The controller-identical NC programming workstation SinuTrain for SINUMERIK
Operate is a product of the Siemens AG Digital Factory unit. SinuTrain simulates a
SINUMERIK 840D sl with the SINUMERIK Operate user interface on your PC.

1.2 What's new?

- Based on SINUMERIK CNC software package 4.8 SP4
o Support of the Sidescreen functionality of SINUMERIK Operate

1.3 Scope of delivery

The software can be downloaded at https://www.siemens.com/sinutrain-downloads.

1.4 Hardware requirements

Processor: 2 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Hard disk:
- 3.3 GB for complete installation with all languages
- 1.2 GB for minimal installation (language English)
Additional memory is required to create your own machines. NC programs can be
printed using any graphics-enabled printers set up on the operating system.

1.5 Software requirement

SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is a 32-bit application released for the following
operating systems:

2 Installation and uninstallation

2.1 Installation of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate

SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is installed via a user-guided setup.
All programs must be closed before initiating the setup.

Notes:
Software version 4.8 Ed.2 is a stand-alone product and is installed independently of
older SinuTrain software packages. It is therefore available to run simultaneously
with an existing SinuTrain version.
An alternative file path can be set up for the installation of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK
Operate. It should be noted in this regard that a maximum path length of 256
characters may not be exceeded.

2.2 Uninstallation of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate

SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is uninstalled using the standard mechanisms in
Windows.
Procedure:
1. Open the Windows Control Panel
2. Click on "Programs and Features“
3. Select "SinuTrain SINUMERIK CNC-SW 840D sl 4.8 SP4" in the software
list
4. Click the "Uninstall" button
5. Select "SinuTrain Workbench 1.6" in the software list
6. Click the "Uninstall" button

Note:
Once installed, SinuTrain can be accessed by several users through their own
respective Windows account. The user-specific SinuTrain data is located in separate
storage paths accordingly.
Following the uninstallation of SinuTrain, this data is retained in the following path:
C:\Users\<Domain user
name>\AppData\Roaming\Siemens\SinuTrain\SINUMERIK CNC-SW 840D sl 4.8
SP4
Following uninstallation, this data can be saved, deleted or reused in the event that
the SinuTrain software is reinstalled.

3 Additional notes

3.1 User rights

Administrative rights are required for installation and uninstallation of SinuTrain for
SINUMERIK Operate. The software, however, may be run without administrative
rights.

3.2 Support of OpenGL

If the driver of your graphic card does not support OpenGL, a corresponding driver
from the manufacturer of your graphic card must be installed. Please contact the
support team of your graphic card manufacturer.
Alternatively, you can also deactivate the hardware acceleration of your graphic card
should you encounter any problems with the display. (Note: This function is not
available for all Windows versions.)
Procedure:
1. Open the Windows Control Panel
2. Navigate to "Display"
3. Click on "Adapt resolution"
4. Click on "Advanced settings"
5. Select the "Troubleshooting" tab
6. Deactivate hardware acceleration (where featured)

4 Known restrictions
· Enabling of the following processes for IP communication using the firewall
rules is necessary for the operation of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate:
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Siemens\sws\almsrv\almsrv64x.exe
(32-bit: C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Siemens\sws\almsrv\almsrvx.exe)

· Problems with the installation system may occur when working with SinuTrain for
SINUMERIK Operate if a security software is being used, for example an active
virus scanner. These problems may include not being able to activate the
SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate licenses, for example. This problem can be
rectified by switching off the security software prior to working with SinuTrain for
SINUMERIK Operate.
Note: Compatibility of the software components has been tested for typical virus
scanners in the commercial environment.
An overview of tested virus scanners can be found at
http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/19577116. Compatibility
with other security software products cannot be guaranteed.

· Other software installed on the PC may restrict the application of SinuTrain for
SINUMERIK Operate. An overview of the recognized software products can be
obtained from the FAQ pages of Siemens Industry Support at
http://support.automation.siemens.com.

· Parts of the SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate software use shared software
libraries, such as the Qt class library. If other software products are installed on
the PC which also use an older version of this software libraries, this could
influence the execution characteristics of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate.
The respective software should be uninstalled if any problems occur.

· If the SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate setup is implemented from a connected

network drive, installation problems may occur when performing necessary
system updates. Ideally, installation should always be implemented from a local
data storage medium.

· Restrictions in the execution of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate may be

encountered if SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is installed in a directory
which includes umlauts (e.g. ä, ö, ü) or special characters (e.g. #) in the path.

· The utilization of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate on operating system

installations which use pictographic languages (e.g. Chinese) or umlauts (e.g. ä,
ö, ü) or special characters for the directories, computer name or login name can
lead to restrictions in application of the software. It is therefore recommended
that SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate be used on operating systems without
pictographic languages, or to avoid the inclusion of pictographic language
characters in computer names and login names. ASCII characters should be
used exclusively for computer names, login names or directory names.

 · When using the SINUMERIK Operate "Simultaneous recording" function, display
problems may be encountered during the processing of complex machine
programs. In this case, verify the results of the "Simultaneous recording" function
using the SINUMERIK Operate "Simulate" function.

· When operating SinuTrain in a virtual machine (e.g. VMware®), display

problems may occur during simulation and simultaneous recording. It is
recommended that the 3D acceleration for the virtual machine is deactivated.

· Processing in a cycle with high computational accuracy (e.g. 8 decimal places)

may elicit a communication failure error in the SINUMERIK Operate display
screen. In order that a high computational accuracy may be achieved which
deviates from the standard, the display machine data 51000
$MNS_DISP_RES_MM (display resolution mm) must be set to a higher value
(e.g. 4).

· The NUM key must be deactivated when working with SinuTrain for SINUMERIK
Operate.

· No compensation data is adopted in the SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate

machine configuration from the machine-specific system commissioning archive.
This applies for data of the following compensation types:
- Quadrant error compensation
- Measuring system compensation
- Compensation with interpolation (sag compensation)

· The Sidescreen functionality of the SINUMERIK Operate is now available with

the resolutions 1366x768 and 1920x1080.

· To adopt applications which are configured in a display configuration in the

Sidescreen of the SINUMERIK Operate, from a machine-specific commissioning
archive in the SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate machine configuration, the
following rules apply:
- Only the applications included in the standard which have been created
on the basis of the "SlGfwSideScreenDialog" class are adopted. The
standard configurations of the SINUMERIK Operate are loaded for these
applications.
- No other applications are adopted.

· SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate manages a maximum of 500 user machines

and 500 user templates.

· If an older version of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is already installed on

the computer, the originally installed language selection is retained when
updating the Siemens Automation License Manager. To install a different
language selection for the Siemens Automation License Manager, this must first
be uninstalled before installing once again.
