why do people live in areas affected by natural hazard?

People often live in areas usually affected by natural hazards like volcanic eruptions because
those areas have naturally rich soil that is good for cultivation or planting crops. The minerals
released during volcanic eruptions make soil fertile and ideal for agriculture. That's why it is not
unusual for countries like Indonesia, Philippines and El Salvador to see people farming up on
very steep volcanic slopes.
how can people prevent disasters when a natural hazard strikes?
We can't actually stop natural hazards from happening. But we can try to minimize its possible
effects to our lives by being alert and ready at all times. For people living near areas where
there is an active volcano, it is necessary to be updated on news about possible volcanic
activities. Also make sure to have an emergency kit at all times and everyone in the family
aware of the things they should do in case something happens, for example, a volcanic
eruption. It is also necessary to know nearest evacuation areas and follow evacuation protocols
as mandated by authorities.
