“Maginoo Pero Medyo Bastos: How to be a Christian Gentleman”

When the word ‘gentleman’ gets into our ears we quickly associate ‘them’ as well-mannered,
sophisticated, helpful, and classy people. Looking back in time, these traits were ‘trained’ by
special kind of people ‘exclusively’ for the boys raised from an affluent family beginning from
their childhood until they have reached adulthood in order for them to acquire the necessary
‘attitude’ towards treating oneself and others in the most appropriate manner. In this article, I
assure you that you could acquire those desired skills in the shortest possible ways that I could
offer, “ The Christian way.”

The Call to Holiness. This should be instilled permanently in our minds as we ‘answer’ to His
universal call to us and to do this, one must respond to the needs of others, possibly not
exceeding much to his capacity. Holiness also requires one to lend a hand to others.

He should be able to live out his virtues and thus be able to respond to God’s big plan for him.
He nourishes and exercises his personal vocation in life by which he does not make an attempt to
experiment on a certain negative situation that would soon make it a hindrance to His plan for
Him.

Patience is a virtue. He is not the one who rushes things that would lead him to sin, which
should be similar to getting happiness, as my classmate once said, “Be happy without sin.” A
Christian gentleman gets things done in a good way and not the other way around. The point here
is to trust in God’s providential care to us therefore he must understand that when we ask
something to Him, the contract speaks to us to wait for His time on when He is going to give it to
you.

This should also be put into consideration that “We all don’t get everything we want” and that is
a fact that we should try to understand. He may give us the freewill but when we begin to think
that He never listens to us because we did not get what we asked for, we should remember that
He’s got plans which are better than our dreams. We may not know that beforehand but He’s got
a big present for us and we are about to get it, only if we trust and believe in “His time”.

We put Him before anything or anyone else. This is what lacks in our society today due to the
emergence of advanced technology, using it as a leisure. A Christian gentleman must then rely
not only to the things around him, but also he must be able to seek his Creator who made him
and gave him the necessary things that he needed in his journey on earth. This requires a deep
spirituality, a more sincere dedication to God beyond everything else. He must then engrave
prayer in his daily life.

These are the basic steps on being a Christian gentleman. Doing these little by little, it could
shape one's attitude towards himself and others, especially to God in a very profound and holy
way. That is, if we do this sin per fuerza or not by force, we do this to extract the goodness that
God has planted in our hearts as we answer to His call to Holiness, and that is what a real
gentleman is all about.
