OVERVIEW
The Yamuna Expressway Project, was formally
inaugurated on 09 Aug, 2012 by the Uttar
Pradesh Chief Minister Mr Akhilesh Yadav and
thrown open to the public.
The expressway starts from Greater Noida and
ends at Kuberpur on NH 2 towards Kanpur and
Agra.
In addition, a total of 13 service roads of about 168 km have been built for local
commuters to access the expressway.

PROJECT GOALS
• To improve the connectivity of the National Capital Region to improve tourist
attraction of Taj Mahal at Agra through the new 6 Lanes.
• To provide a fast moving corridor to minimize the travel time
• To connect the main townships / commercial centers on the eastern side of Yamuna
• To ensure development of adjoining area
• To relieve NH-2 which is already congested and runs through the heart of cities like
Faridabad, Ballabgarh and Palwal.
• Accelerate movement of supplies and help to affected areas during Yamuna floods
and other emergencies.

TEA (TAJ EXPRESSWAY INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.)
• The concept of the Yamuna Expressway which was initially conceived with the idea of
cutting down on this travel time proposes a 160 km Expressway between Greater Noida and
Agra thus reducing the travel time considerably upto 100 minutes only.
• For implementing the Yamuna Expressway Project and for development in the region, GOUP
constituted Taj Expressway Industrial Development Authority (TEA) 24th April, 2001, under
U.P. Industrial Area Development Act, 1976.
• The main responsibilities of TEA, inter alia, included :
✓ Execution of Yamuna Expressway.
✓ Acquisition of land for construction of Expressway and area development.
✓ Preparation of Zonal plan/Master plan for planned development along the Expressway.
✓ Development of drainage, feeder roads, electrification and other facilities in the area.

• The Build Operate Transfer (BOT) Contract was awarded


to Jaiprakash Industries, later merged into Jaypee
Cement Ltd. (JCL), in 2003.
• Jaypee Cement, now known as Jaiprakash Associates
Ltd (JAL), flagship company of the Jaypee group, is an
infrastructural industrial conglomerate in India.

COST ESTIMATE

• The total cost for the completion of the project was estimated to be
9739.29 crores.
• Once the expressway was constructed the final cost went up to
13000 crores.
• The cost escalated over the years due to several delays and issues of
land acquisition and compensation.
• The cost was received as debt from various banks like ICICI Bank and
Axis Bank with a concession period of 36 years.

CONCLUSION
The Yamuna Expressway project ultimately
turned out to be a success.
As planned the expressway is generating high
revenue with a regular flow of tourists and with
infrastructure such as Universities, Cricket
stadium, etc. coming up, the traffic flow will
only increase.
