Laboratory Supervisor

Division:
Material Testing

I-Function:
- Technical and supervisory responsibility of the physical and chemistry departments at the Laboratory.
- To supervise, operate and perform testing on construction materials.
- To organize test programs in the Laboratory.
- To ensure accurate measurement of the physical, mechanical and chemical properties of construction
materials according to documented procedures.
- To ensure a smooth and efficient day to day operation of the Laboratory by direct supervision and close
co- ordination with heads of departments (Physical; Chemistry and External operations and logistics).
- To ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in the testing operation in the Laboratory by
streamlining testing activities and associated logistics with minimum costs in labor and material.
- To ensure that the testing operation output exceeds customer expectations.

II- Reporting:
- Laboratory Manager
- To the General Manager (or Deputy General Manager).
III- Supervising:
- Heads of Divisions and Departments in the Laboratory (Physical; Chemistry and External Operations and
Logistics).
- Data Encoders.
- All affiliated personnel.

IV- Duties and Responsibilities:


- Ensures a tidy workplace in the central laboratory.
- Examines and prepares samples for testing.
- Prepares the testing schedule of the central laboratory and issues internal testing instructions to heads of
departments.
- Overall responsibility of the maintenance of all laboratory equipment, vehicles, training apparatus,
documents, books, manuals and inventory allocations.
- Directs and advises personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of
construction materials.
- Maintains testing records.
- Tests and analyzes sample products for chemical properties such as chlorides, sulfates, organic impurities,
organic matter, pH, and Total dissolved solids.
- Conducts field sampling, testing, and nondestructive testing.
- Tests, analyzes and approves samples for physical properties according to all the standards adopted by the
company.
- Ensures implementation of all health and safety adopted procedures.
- Compiles and analyzes test information to determine operating efficiency of process or equipment and to
diagnose malfunctions.
- Meets with inspectors, engineers, contractors, and/or developers to determine corrective action required
when there are discrepancies between work done and the approved plans, specifications and standards.
- Calculates and checks the test results and assists in the preparation of the report.
- Approves test results.
- Reviews final test reports as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
- Ensures that test equipment in the central laboratory are timely and regularly maintained and calibrated
- Prepares daily summary checklist and hands it over to Laboratory Manager.
- Prepares weekly summary report of the overall operation of the department and hands it over to Laboratory
Manager (to enclose the weekly summary reports of the heads of departments).
- Ensures that daily, weekly and monthly checklists are timely filled by heads of departments and that all items
mentioned in these checklists are fulfilled.

targets in the most cost effective and timeliness manner.
- Coordinates with the Technical Division for technical related issues and for the training of employees in the
Laboratory.
- Ensures that tests are carried with integrity and accuracy and that test equipment are functioning in good
condition.
- Oversees the testing activities in all departments and ensures that all testing is carried in accordance with
appropriate standards and in line with company policies and procedures for safety and integrity.
- Reviews the attendance sheets of subordinates, approves their leave requests and assists in their periodical
evaluation in coordination with the Laboratory Manager.
- Recommends internal trainings for his subordinates if needed in testing activities.
- Assists in the training of Senior Technicians, laboratory engineers, Technicians and Trainee Technicians.
- Other duties as assigned.

V- Cooperation and Contact:


With colleagues from other divisions. With the Quality Manager and auditors from the company and with other
auditors and clients, suppliers and subcontractors at all levels. With technical associations and associate companies.
With all personnel in site laboratories.

VI- Qualification:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemistry or Engineering and minimum of two years related experience in laboratory
testing of construction materials. Good knowledge of the Quality Management system adopted in the company;
or Minimum five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.

Language Ability : (Arabic, English)


Arabic: Read, Spoken and Written
English: Read, Spoken and Written

Skills:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Conversant with ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and HSE systems.

Computer Skills:
Internet software, E-mail, MS office, Inventory and database software.

VII- Work Environment:


While performing his/her duties the Laboratory Supervisor might be exposed to environmental and physical hazards
such as: long sitting periods, long computer interaction periods, wet and/or humid conditions, precarious equipment
and working areas, fumes, miscellaneous weather conditions, lifting heavy items, loud noise and airborne particles.
