CHAPTER I
Introduction
lockdown and community quarantine of several countries have lead the Grade 12 students of
Northeastern Mindanao Colleges (NEMCO) to continue their studies at home which lead to
the
delivery of online learning platforms. By simply following the Health Protocols that has been
5
implemented by the Government, the implementation of online learning posed different risks,
problems and challenges to both the teachers and students, especially in the higher
education institutions. Also following the Health Protocols like personal safety practices,
physical distancing, face coverings, wearing gloves, goggles and face shields, hand hygiene,
coughing/sneezing hygiene, personal disinfection, request for cleaning supplies and face
coverings, and most importantly personal accommodations in which it can help the Grade 12
students of Northeastern Mindanao Colleges, School Year 2020-2021.
The Coronavirus disease was first identified amid an outbreak of respiratory illness
cases in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. COVID-19 is a disease caused by a new strain
of coronavirus. ‘CO’ stands for corona, ‘VI’ for virus, and ‘D’ for disease. Formerly, this
disease was referred to as ‘2019 novel coronavirus’ or ‘2019-nCoV.’ The COVID-19 virus is
a new virus linked to the same family of viruses as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
(SARS) and some types of common cold. The virus is transmitted through direct contact with
respiratory droplets of an infected person (generated through coughing and sneezing).
Individuals can also be infected from and touching surfaces contaminated with the virus and
touching their face (e.g., eyes, nose, mouth). The COVID-19 virus may survive on surfaces
for several hours, but simple disinfectants can kill it. Symptoms can include fever, cough and
shortness of breath. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia or breathing
difficulties. More rarely, the disease can be fatal. These symptoms are similar to the flu
(influenza) or the common cold, which are a lot more common than COVID-19. This is why
testing is required to confirm if someone has COVID-19. On January 30, 2020, the WHO
declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global health emergency. On March 11, 2020, the WHO
declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. However, many of the symptoms can be treated and
getting early care from a healthcare provider can make the disease less dangerous. There are
several clinical trials that are being conducted to evaluate potential therapeutics for COVID-
19. As with other respiratory
6
infections like the flu or the common cold, public health measures are critical to slow the
spread of illnesses. Public health measures are everyday preventive actions that include:
staying home when sick, covering mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue when
coughing or sneezing, dispose of used tissue immediately, washing hands often with soap and
water, cleaning frequently touched surfaces and objects, stay at home, avoid crowded places,
and the most important of all is to follow the safety health protocols (eg. facemask,
faceshield, social distancing, etc.).The Knowledge and Compliance with Covid-19 Health
Protocols of Grade 12 students of Northeastern Mindanao Colleges (NEMCO), School Year
2020-2021 should be conducted in order to have a survey and test the level of their
knowledge and compliance whether the students follow or neglect the safety protocols that
has been implemented by the government.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
The Extended Parallel Processing Model (EPPM). Adapted from "Putting the fear
back into fear appeals. Knowledge and Compliance with Covid-19 Health Protocols of Grade
12 students of Northeastern Mindanao Colleges (NEMCO), School Year 2020-2021 plays an
important role in minimizing the spread of Covid-19. Issues related to conspiracy theories
and theories had obscured the message for the people to keep their behaviour safe from the
virus. The Extended Parallel Process Model (EPPM) is a theory that explains how the
students would obey the protocols they received, particularly health messages. Perception of
threats and efficacy contribute significantly to the effectiveness of the messages that the
students received. In this article, it affect society's threats and efficacy to comply with health
protocols. These conditions were viewed from social, clinical, and industrial-organizational
psychology perspectives. We suggest that these solutions should be applied to strengthen the
tendency for the Grade 12 students to obey health protocols.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
2. What is the level of knowledge and compliance with existing Covid-19 health
protocols among Grade 12 Students of Northeastern Mindanao Colleges, School Year
2020-2021?
Teachers and Administrators of NEMCO. This study will help them to understand the
changes and compliance of the Grade 12 students of the healthy protocols and their academic
performance during this trying times of pandemic.
Parents. This study will help the parents to protect their children away from the virus
by simply encouraging them to obey the health protocols and sharing their knowledge to their
children on how dangerous the virus to their lives.
Future researchers. To the future researchers, this study will help them as an access
knowledge or idea that will support to their propose study.
9
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
This study focuses on the level of knowledge of the Grade 12 students of Northeastern
Mindanao Colleges about the infectious Covid-19 and their compliance of the safety health
protocols. The participants of the study are the selected Grade 12 of Northeastern Mindanao
Colleges students. The study will be conducted these first semester S.Y. 2020-2021 at home
via social media. The researchers conduct this study to determine level of knowledge and
compliance with existing Covid-19 health protocols among the selected Grade 12 students of
Northeastern Mindanao Colleges. Through the utilization of questionnaire to the selected
Grade 12 students and asking permission to the target informants, the researchers can gather
data.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
10
inevitability and the inescapable—the disastrous, whether death or dire misfortune
Inclusive - including or covering all the services, facilities, or items normally
expected or required.
Obscured - keep from being seen; conceal.
Pneumonia - is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs.
SARS - Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory illness
caused by a coronavirus called SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV)
Stigmatizing – to describe or identify in opprobrious terms.
Utilization – the action of making practical and effective use of something.
CHAPTER II
Countries around the world are taking broad public health and social measures
(PHSM), including closure of schools, to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. This Annex
examines considerations for school operations, including openings, closures and re-openings
and the measures needed to minimize the risk to students and staff of COVID-19. This Annex
applies to educational settings for children under the age of 18 years and outlines general
principles and key recommendations that can be tailored not only to schools but to specific
school-related contexts, such as extracurricular activities. This Annex replaces a document
published by the World Health Organization on 10 May 2020 entitled Considerations for
school related public health measures in the context of COVID-19.
This document was developed with input from the Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
of Experts on Educational Institutions and COVID-19 and experts from WHO, UNICEF, and
UNESCO, who jointly reviewed the latest evidence to develop this interim guidance, which
considers equity, resource implications, and feasibility. The main changes introduced in this
document are a risk-based approach for school operations in the context of COVID-19 based
on the level and intensity of the
11
transmission at administrative levels lower than the national level, age-appropriate
considerations for both physical distancing and the use of masks in the school setting and
comprehensive, multi-layered measures to prevent introduction and spread of COVID-19 in
educational setting.
This Annex is intended to help policy makers and educators with making decisions on
running schools as safely as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the forefront of all
considerations and decisions should be the continuity of education for children for their
overall well-being, health and safety. Nonetheless, all decisions will have implications for
children, parents or caregivers, teachers and other staff and more broadly, their communities
and societies.
Galvez, also the presidential peace adviser, said the government will conduct strict
inspections in schools if the proposal for limited face-to-face classes will be granted. He said
the government will check the school's compliance with the pandemic measures and health
protocols, noting that a model school will be selected to illustrate proper health standards.
Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones earlier said her office is looking
into the possibility of allowing schools in low-risk areas to conduct limited face-to-face
classes as suggested by various sectors.
Galvez said schools should comply with the provision of health protection equipment
similar to those in malls where there is “one way in and one way out” to limit close contact.
According to Dr. Howard Markel’s recent New York Times op-ed, “Shutting them
[schools] down can be a key part of slowing the spread of easily transmissible viruses so that
hospitals are not overrun with sick people.”
12
RELATED STUDIES (LOCAL & FOREIGN)
Local
Based on the researcher, the current study integrated Protection Motivation Theory
(PMT) and extended Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to evaluate factors affecting the
perceived effectiveness of COVID-19 prevention measures among Filipinos during Enhanced
Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon, Philippines.
The current study is one of the first studies to analyze factors affecting the perceived
effectiveness of COVID-19 prevention measures during the global pandemic. It is proposed
that the integrated PMT and extended TPB of this study can be applied and extended to
evaluate the perceived effectiveness of COVID-19 measures in other countries that are
currently dealing with COVID-19 pandemic.
13
Foreign
The purpose of this study was to assess knowledge, attitudes and behaviours about
COVID-19 among Portuguese higher education students.
In May 2020, all students from a Portuguese University were invited to participate in
completing an online questionnaire. A total of 262 students participated. COVID-19 related
knowledge, attitudes toward COVID-19 and preventive behaviours were assessed.
Differences between outcomes and sociodemographic were analyzed through independent t-
tests and the ANOVA. A generalized linear model was calculated to determine the predictive
variables of preventive behaviours.
Students revealed good knowledge about COVID-19, correctly answering 13.06 (SD
= 1.25) questions in a total of 14 and favourable attitudes toward preventive behaviours (M =
32.73, SD = 2.88). Students reported always engaging in, on average, 5.81 (SD = 2.61) of the
12 behaviour analyzed. Females presented higher levels of knowledge, more positive
attitudes and engaged in more preventive behaviours than males. Being a bachelor's (Exp (β)
= 8.213, 95% CI: 1.791–37.670, p < 0.01) or a master's degree student (Exp (β) = 7.568, 95%
CI: 1.598–35.835, p < 0.05) and having positive attitudes toward preventive behaviour of
COVID-19 predicted the adoption of those preventive behaviour (Exp (β) = 1.340, 95% CI:
1.189–1.510, p < 0.001).
This study provides useful data to plan health education programs about COVID-19
among higher education students. The continuous investment by universities in preventive
campaigns is essential to promote good preventive behaviours in the next academic year.
The above collection of both local and foreign studies provides information
proponents that their proposed study has similarities with this knowledge and compliance
with this covid-19 which is widely used. As stated covid-19 has brought us into panic and
new normal that we need to comply with the given protocols, help to
14
prevent the virus (covid-19). Social distancing is done by the help of the front liners. Which
above lockdown must be comply during this pandemic.
The collection of these studies above are related in the knowledge and compliance
with this covid-19. It will give assurance that these new normal, lockdown and protocols that
are implemented is to secure our safety especially in grade-12 students in NMCO. It also
guarantees that the community will be knowledgeable about the compliance regarding the
protocols with this pandemic. It is beneficiary to individuals, to become easier, faster and
efficient to fully recover back into normal.
CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Knowledge and compliance with COVID-19 emphasize the health protocols desired
outcomes and results. Challenging the NEMCO staffs and their students specially grade 12
students to think interns of complying the health protocols by having an online class and is
one of the best solution to avoid being infected of virus disease in cooperating such health
protocols into a specification represents a distinct knowledge of the students. Whereas how to
approach and convince the students to comply the given protocols and their compliance may
be heard by the staffs of NEMCO. It is guided and advice the research team develop guide
specification and associated implementation guidelines to support the knowledge of
compliance specification across a wide range of work and project in preparing there
documents the team focused its research on odd reading some questions.
