RATIONAL FUNCTIONS
Representations of Rational Functions

I. Learning Competencies
Represent a rational function through its table of values, graphs and equation,
and solve problems involving rational functions. M11GM-Ib-4

II. Objectives
The learners are expected to represents rational function using:
a. table of values
b. graphs
c. equations

III. Key Concept

Rational function is written in the form of (𝑥) = (𝑥)/𝑞(𝑥) . It should follow the
following conditions; namely:
1. Both p(x) and q(x) are polynomial functions wherein it has no negative and
fractional exponents.
2. The denominator or q(x) should not be equal to 0.
3. The domain of all values of x where q(x) ≠ 0.
Same with other functions, rational functions can also be represented in
different ways. But it does not necessary to use all representations at the same
time.
You can use the set of order pair; mapping diagram, table of values; rule or
equation and graph to model the function.
