AUTHENTIC AND STANDARDS- BASED

PERFORMANCE TASK IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY OF GRADE 11


2nd SEMESTER OF S.Y. 2020- 2021
Performance Standard: The learners will be able to apply suitable sampling and sampling distributions of the
sample mean to solve real-life problems in different disciplines.

Transfer Goal: The learners will be able to individually use their learning to create a sampling distribution
about the trend of COVID-19 cases in different municipalities of Nueva Ecija for them to become creative
critical thinkers and problem solvers.

Target 21st Century Skills: Critical Thinking, and Communication

Performance Task/s: Creating a sampling distribution.


(Engaging Scenario)
COVID-19 TREND
The COVID- 19 pandemic has a tremendous impact on Filipino’s lives including personal and social
behaviors. The risk of acquiring it dramatically increases.

You are one of the researchers about the trend of COVID-19 cases here in Nueva Ecija. You’ve research
some information about the number of patients in different provinces here in Nueva Ecija and choose it as your
random variable to use in your study.

According to Nueva Ecija TV48 as of February 22, 2021, there are 82 positive cases here in Nueva Ecija.
There are 16 positive cases in District I, 14 cases in District II, 33 in District III and 19 in District IV.

In the given data, let the number of cases per district and per provinces be the random variable. Choose
only one District (except District 1) to test in your study and decide your sample size to get your sample means
and construct the sampling distribution of the sample means and get the mean and variance out of it.

After identifying the result of the mean and variance of the sample mean that represents the result of the
whole population, come up with that result and interpret it. State also possible solutions regarding it.

Interpretation:
