Religious orator Padma Shri Ibrahim Sutar passes
away
 Renowned religious orator and Padma Shri
awardee Ibrahim Sutar, who had earned the
recognition of Kannada Kabir, passed away in
February 2022.
 In 1970, he had set up Harmony Folk Music
Mela comprising a team of artists who started
giving religious discourse in the neighboring
villages.
 Recognising his contribution to the society,
the government had conferred on him Padma
Shri award in 2018.
Dept of Fisheries approves projects worth Rs 5,918
cr under PMMSY
 The Dept of Fisheries has approved projects
worth Rs 5,918 crore of various state
governments and other agencies under the
Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana
(PMMSY).
 The dept aims to bring 'Blue Revolution'
through sustainable development of the
fisheries sector with an investment of Rs
20,050 crore for a period of five years, starting
2020-21 to 2024-25 in all states/union
territories.
India's unemployment rate drops to 6.57% in
January 2022
 India's unemployment rate has fallen to 6.57
percent in January 2022, which is the lowest
since March 2021, according to the Centre for
Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).
 Unemployment in urban India stood at 8.16
percent in January, while in rural areas it was
the lowest at 5.84 percent.

 Telangana reported the lowest unemployment
rate at 0.7 percent in January, followed by
Gujarat (1.2%).
Sonali Singh given charge of Controller General of
Accounts
 The center has given the charge of the
Controller General of Accounts (CGA),
Department of Expenditure, Ministry of
Finance to Sonali Singh, after the
superannuation of Dipak Dash.
 She is presently the Additional Controller
General of Accounts.
 A 1987 batch officer of Indian Civil Accounts
Service (ICAS), Singh had joined CGA as
Additional Controller General of Accounts in
October 2019.
A book titled ‘Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra’ By
Navdeep Gill released
 A short biography ‘Golden Boy Neeraj
Chopra’ penned by sports author Navdeep
Singh Gill was released on 3 Feb 2022.
 It is the seventh book written by Navdeep and
the sixth placing focus on the sports as well
as the sportspersons.
 The book brought out by Lokgeet Prakashan
is from the genre of children’s literature.
 The book has 72 pages and covers the life
history and achievements of Neeraj.
India sends 1 lakh RAT kit to Sri Lanka as COVID-19
aid
 India continued its COVID-19 assistance to
Sri Lanka by initiating the delivery of 100,000
Rapid Antigen Self Test Kit from 4 Feb 2022.
 This was informed by the High Commission of
India in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
 As Sri Lanka is facing a serious financial
crisis, India has stepped up and pledged USD
2.415 billion to the island nation to help
overcome financial constraints.
Bata India ropes in Disha Patani as brand
ambassador
 Bata India Limited has on-boarded actress
Disha Patani as the new brand ambassador.
 The company sells over 47 mn pairs of
footwear annually through its 1,500 Bata-
owned and franchised stores.
 Its products are also sold on bata.in and in
thousands of multi-brand footwear dealer
stores pan-India.
 In the past, Bata has associated with
celebrities including Kriti Sanon, Smriti
Mandhana, etc.
Oman defence delegation concludes visit to
Southern Naval Command
 A seven-member defence delegation from the
Sultanate of Oman, concluded its two-day
visit to the Southern Naval Command in Kochi
on 4 Feb 2022.
 The delegation was led by the Secretary-
General of the Oman Ministry of Defence, Dr
Mohammed Bin Nasser Bin Ali Al-Zaabi.
 Prior to their visit, the delegation attended the
11th meeting of India-Oman Joint Military
Cooperation Committee at New Delhi.
Foundation stone laid for new border haat on
Bangladesh-India border
 The foundation stone for the third border haat
at Kamalpur-Kumarghat on Tripura-
Bangladesh border was laid on 3 Feb 2022.
 It was laid jointly by the CM of Tripura Biplab
Kumar Deb and Bangladesh Commerce
Minister Tipu Munshi.
 Eight border haats are proposed to be built on
the border between Tripura and Bangladesh
out of which two are already functional at
Kamalasagar in Sepahijala.

 Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is regarded as one of
the greatest vocalists of all time having
profoundly contributed to the Indian classical
music field for more than four decades.
 He received the Bharat Ratna in 2008.
 He is also credited for creating new ragas
such as Kalashree, Lalit Bhatiyar and Marwa
Shree while some of his most popular ragas
are Malkauns, Abhogi, Lalit, Yaman, Asavari
Todi.
PM Modi unveils 'Statue of Equality' in Hyderabad
 Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visited
Hyderabad on 5 February 2022.
 He dedicated to the nation the ‘Statue of
Equality’ at Munchital near Shamshabad
during his visit.
 It is a 216-feet tall statue of 11th-century
Bhakti saint Ramanujacharya.
 He also kick-started the Golden Jubilee
celebrations of the International Crops
Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics
(ICRISAT).
S R Narasimhan takes additional charge as CMD
POSOCO
 Power System Operation Corporation Ltd
(POSOCO)'s Director (System Operation) SR
Narasimhan has taken additional charge of
the post of Chairman and Managing Director.
 His appointment is in effect from 1 February
2022.
 He was conferred with the IEEE-PES, Delhi
Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award in 2019
and the CIGRE Distinguished Member in
2020.
BSE's CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan to head an expert
panel
 BSE's CEO and Ashishkumar Chauhan will
head a 5-member expert committee that will
deliberate on the feasibility of bringing the
National Institute of Industrial Engineering
(NITIE) Mumbai under the IIM Act.
 NITIE Mumbai was established by the
government in 1963.
 It is an autonomous body under the Ministry
of Education and registered as a society
under the Societies Registration Act.
Dinesh Prasad Saklani appointed as NCERT Director
 Professor Dinesh Prasad Saklani has been
appointed as the new Director of the National
Council of Educational Research and Training
(NCERT).
 He has been appointed for a period of five
years or till he attains the age of 65 years,
whichever is the earliest.
 NCERT is an autonomous body, which
assists and advises the government on
policies for improvement in school education.
Sankar and Samayara win at the Iran Junior
International Series
 Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian and
Samayara Panwar secured the Under-19
boys and girls' singles titles respectively at the
Iran Junior International Series badminton
tournament on 4 Feb 2022.
 Subramanian defeated Ali Hayati of Iran 21-
17 21-17 in the boys' singles final.
 Panwar defeated another Iranian, Ferdous
Foroughi 21-14 21-15 in girls' singles summit
clash.
The book 'The Immortal King Rao' to come up in
May 2022
 HarperCollins India has announced the
acquisition of Vauhini Vara's debut novel -
The Immortal King Rao.
 It is set to release in India and the US on 3rd
May 2022.
 It will be published under the Fourth
Estateimprint.
 The book is a saga set across times and
continents - from the coconut plantations of
South India in the 1950s to the globalized
arena of America in the near future.
Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship 2022 announced by
the government
 The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser
to the Government of India has announced
the “Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship 2022”.

 It has been launched under its “Waste to
Wealth” Mission.
 It will empower young innovators who are
engaged in community work of waste
management, waste awareness campaigns,
etc. as Swachhta Saarthis and implement
actions to reduce waste for a greener planet.
Ministry of Textiles partners with 13 state
government agencies
 The Ministry of Textiles has partnered with 13
state government agencies, 92 textile
industry, 10 industry associations/ councils,
and 4 sectoral organizations of the Ministry of
Textiles.
 It will train 3.46 lakh beneficiaries in the textile
sector, allocated after physical verification of
training centers.
 Fresh proposal for empanelment under the
scheme were invited in September 2021.
Aravalli Biodiversity Park in Gurugram declared as
India’s first OECM
 The Aravalli Biodiversity Park has been
declared India’s first “other effective area-
based conservation measures” (OECM) site.
 The OECM tag is given by the International
Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to
areas that are not protected but support rich
biodiversity.
 The park is spread across 390 acres and has
semi-arid vegetation, with around 300 native
plants, and 101,000 trees.
IndiGo appoints co-founder and promoter Rahul
Bhatia as MD
 InterGlobe Aviation has announced the
appointment of its Co-founder Rahul Bhatia
as the company's Managing Director with
immediate effect.
 The company is the parent of the country's
largest airline IndiGo.
 Bhatia is the Co-founder and Promoter of
InterGlobe Aviation.
 Meleveetil Damodaran is the Chairman of
IndiGo.
 The company is headquartered in Gurgaon,
Haryana.
