ABSTRACT

In the context of fast depletion of fossil fuels, ever increase of pollution levels with

fossil fuels, heavy consumption of diesel fuel in not only transport sector but also in

agriculture sector, the burden on economy sector of Government of India due to heavy

import of crude oil the search for alternate fuels has become pertinent. Alcohols and

vegetable oils are the major alternate fuels for diesel fuel as they are renewable in

nature. Alcohols have high volatility but have low cetane number and hence engine
2

modification is necessary, if they are used as fuels in diesel engines. Vegetable oils

have cetane number close to diesel fuel, however, the drawbacks of low volatility and

high viscosity associated with non-edible vegetable oils call for hot combustion

chamber, provided by low heat rejection (LHR) diesel engine. Performance is

evaluated with different degrees of insulation such as Ceramic coated cylinder head

engine (LHR-1); Air gap insulated piston and air gap insulated liner (LHR-2); Air gap

insulated piston, air gap insulated liner and ceramic coated cylinder head engine

(LHR-3); with normal temperature of waste fried vegetable oil collected from

restaurants at varied injection pressure and compared with pure diesel operation on

conventional engine.

Conventional engine with crude vegetable oil showed deterioration in the

performance when compared with pure diesel operation on conventional engine.

Improvement in the performance is observed with LHR versions of the engine with

vegetable oil operation at varied injection pressure.

CHAPTER-1
INTRODUCTION

Introduction about the problem, research gaps, objectives, description of chapters.

The maximum number of pages 2-3.

CHAPTER-2
LITERATURE REVIEW

The work taken up by previous researchers in your area of research. What are the gaps
or deficiencies left over. Problem definition. References are mentioned in square
brackets, either with author name or number. .Maximum number of pages - 10.

CHAPTER-3
EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMME OR ANALYSIS

Methodology adopted in experimentation along with Photographs. If is analysis,

equations used are to be mentioned. If either ANSYS or CFD is used, boundary
conditions are to be given in this chapter. There must be some reference for assuming
boundary conditions. That reference must be quoted in reference section which is
given at the end of the thesis. Maximum number of pages 4

CHAPTER-4
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Results are to be discussed with the help of figures or sketches. Each figure has title
below the figure (11 F, BOLD, CAPITAL). Fig.4.1 means first figure of Chapter-4.
Discussion pertains to that Figure should be done above the figure. Discussion is to be
followed by figure along with Figure No, which is to be mentioned in the test.
Similarly data can be given in Tables. Each Table will have title above the table.
Table is to be numbered. Discussion pertains to this table should be done above the
4

Table by mentioning the table No. Figures obtained in Software like ANSYS should
also contain Figure No. The ANSYS figure should be further analyzed by drawing
suitable graphs. Maximum No of pages 30

CHAPTER-5
CONCLUSIONS

Results are to be concluded with the help of statements.

No explanation is necessary.

In this chapter only, Future Scope of the Work is to be written.

Future scope of work means- How the experimentation or analysis can be further
extended in order to get better performance. Maximum number of pages-2
