The Beatitudes

Reflection Question:
How will you apply Beatitudes in relation to self, other people, and society?

The Beatitudes are the eight declarations of blessedness spoken by Jesus of the Sermon on the Mount.
They each begin with “Blessed are…” which basically tell us how to live our relationship with God. The
beatitudes describe the type of happiness God wants us to share. They also teach that happiness doesn't
come from wealth, power, or fame. The Beatitudes have a major importance in Christian lives, they are
the words from Jesus that shed a light on our lives on how to know and meet God. In short, the beatitudes
tell us that the good actions we do, we will be rewarded in our afterlife, and through our lifetime, God
will be there indirectly guiding us to him and Jesus Christ.

If we feel like we are losing hope in our self, we can apply these beatitudes by finding our only hope
in God. We need to try our very best to love others as God has loved us, to pursue holiness in our lives,
and to know more and follow our Savior through many trials for the joy set before us. The Beatitudes
are a great source for my self-examination, my personal confession, and my own prayer. I need to
practice it in my everyday life because I want to be closer to God. And I think, when we apply it to
ourselves, when we follow all the beatitudes, we are living in the way that Jesus and God want us to live,
and we will get to know them in heaven. The importance of them is simple yet lead us to where we want
to end up as a person.

I know that going by the evidence of public interactions between "Christians" on social media, blogs,
public debates, publications, it's hard sometimes to see active evidence of the Beatitudes. But since
these are the foundational teachings of Jesus Christ, they are the heart attitudes that should govern,
guide, and be evident in all our interactions towards other people. We, Christians need to be regularly
giving ourselves to meditation and application of the Beatitudes as the foundation for Christian living so
that the character qualities and family characteristics Jesus taught us, will also be at work in his people.
They will know Christ by our actions, not only by our words, so we need to put extra effort to follow the
Beatitudes.

We can definitely apply the Beatitudes as well, because it teaches us how to "be peace," not just be
at peace, but to become peace so that peace can spread, and that peace can come from being rooted
both in the life of God and in the society. If only we could apply these to every area of life, from poverty
and one's attitude towards money and things and how we care for those who have less to our
relationship to the people in the society, we could have an amazing world and a better place to live in.
