This is a preparation for your Grand Performance Task in the Second Quarter. Make sure to grasp it.
Answer the process questions written below.

Situation : The volume of a right circular cylinder varies jointly as the height and the square of the radius. The volume
of a right circular cylinder, with radius 4 centimeters and height 7 centimeters, is 352 cm 3. Find the volume of another
cylinder with radius 8 centimeter and height 14 centimeters.

Solution:
The equation of the relation is V = khr2
¿ 4 cm
From the given set of data: r = 4 cm
h = 7 cm
V = 352 cm3

To find k substitute the values above: 3

¿ 7 cm
V =352c m
V = khr2
V
k= Dividing both sides by hr2
h r2
352
k=
(7)(4)2
352
k=
(7)(16)
22
k=
7

To find the volume of a cylinder with r = 8 cm and h = 14 cm:

V = khr2
22
V= (13) ¿
7
22
V= ( 13 ) ( 64 )
7
V = 2816 cm3

This is a preparation for your Grand Performance Task in the Second Quarter. Make sure to grasp it.

Situation: A square swimming pool having an area of 2 5 m2 can be fully filled with water for about 125 m3.

1. What are the dimensions of the pool?

3
2. If only of the swimming pool is filled with water, how deep is it?
4
3. Suppose the area of the square pool is 3 62, what is the length of its 2
A=25 m
side?
4. If one of the side measures 11m, what could be the possible amount s=5 m
of water can hold?

Solution:
1. Since the Area of the pool A=25 m2 that can hold water (Volume) V =125m3
V =lwh
Let s be the value of the dimensions. ( s ) ( s )( s )=s 3

Since it is cubical in shape. We can solve it directly,

3 3
125 m =s
√3 125 m3= √3 s3
h=5 m
s=5 3
V =125m
The dimensions of the pool are 5m x 5m x 5m.

3
2. If only of the swimming pool is filled with water, then it will be w=5 m
4
3.75m deep.

Deep¿ 5 m ( 34 )=3.75 m l=5 m

3. Suppose the area of the square pool is 3 62, what is the length of its
side?
Just find the length by getting the square root of the new Area.
2
A=s
2 2
36 s =s

√ 36 s 2=√ s 2
s=6 m
Now, you try to answer number 4 and show your solution below.

Answer the process questions written below.

Situation: There is a scarcity of water in your area. Every household would only have 10 containers each day. Since your
family only own 5 containers of water, your father wants to buy a cylindrical water tank for the water to be stored. You
are task by your father to go to the market and find a water tank that is cylindrical. What would be the diameter of the
cylindrical tank if the volume of the water to be filled is 25 m3 and the height of it should not be more than 2 meters?

Solution: d=?
Formula in solving the volume of circular cylinder: V =πr 2 h
Diameter = twice the radius
2
Computation: V =πr h

3
V =25 m h=2 m3
