The Bar Council of India (hence referred to as BCI) has played an important role in Indian legal

education. The Legal Education System has been formed by BCI into what it is today. According to
the Law Ministry's 2014-2015 annual report, BCI merged 92 new law colleges in nine months last
year. The BCI's co-member Legal Education Committee (LEC), which examines law schools and
advises the BCI on whether the schools are appropriate for affiliation, has granted consent of
affiliation to 92 new institutions according to the report examined. BCI, as a pillar of support for
legal education, took the daring step of initiating and sponsoring a five-year integrated course in
national law college Bangalore, India, after a three-year course. The National Law School's
extraordinary success prompted the establishment of new schools modelled around the Bangalore
Model. There are now 11 National Law Schools in the United States. This had a significant impact
on Indian legal education. The Bar Council of India (BCI) is a statutory organisation that governs
and represents India's legal profession. It was founded in 1961 under Section 4 of the Advocates
Act. BCI's headquarters are in New Delhi. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman are in charge. BCI was
established to establish a standard of professional behaviour and decorum, as well as to wield
disciplinary authority. BCI also establishes standards for legal education and recognises
universities whose law degrees serve as a prerequisite for individuals to enrol as advocates
following graduation. BCI is a corporate body with an indefinite succession and a common seal
that falls under the Ministry of Law and Justice of the Government of India. The BCI has
established a number of committees, including the Education Committee, the Disciplinary
Committee, the Executive Committee, the Legal Aid Committee, the Advocates Welfare Fund
Committee, the Rules Committee, and others, to deal with specific concerns that arise from time
to time.
