Survey Report
Boracay is the most visited destination in the Philippines and is famous for its white-sand
beaches and nightlife. This paper will show a record of local and foreign tourists who visited
Boracay from 2018-2020. Due to Boracay being closed down to the public last April 26, 2018,
because of the rehabilitation, this paper will only include the first quarter of 2018. This paper
will also show the sudden drop of tourists who visit Boracay caused by the pandemic and the
spike of tourists coming to Boracay when the government lowered the alert level in the
Philippines. Furthermore, this paper aims to inform the people on how covid-19 affects the
economy of the Philippines and how it's not advisable to go to Boracay since the tourists who
visit Boracay are inflating every day.
II. SUMMARY OF DATA GATHERED (Duyag)
The table illustrates the number of tourists who visited Boracay starting from the year
2018 up until the year 2020. Over the course of three years there were three million three
hundred ten thousand and nine hundred twenty-two (3,310,922 ) tourists in total that visited the
island. According to statistics, the total number of tourists visiting Boracay in the year of 2018
was nine hundred forty-one thousand and eight hundred sixty-eight (941,868) which is the
average number of people visiting the island. Boracay is recognized for its white sand beaches,
making it the ideal location for a relaxing summer holiday. The peak number of tourists was in
the year 2019, where the island saw an increase of 46.29% percent where two million thirty-four
thousand and five hundred ninety-nine (2,034,599) tourists visited since it was rehabilitated the
year before. Many tourists were intrigued about the results and improvements that were done
during the six months that it was temporarily closed to guests. However in the year 2020, the
tourist destination had a sixteen point forty-four percent (16.44%) drop in visitors, with only
three hundred thirty-four thousand and four hundred forty-five ( 334,455) tourists visiting the
island. The cause for this was due to the epidemic, which led numerous airline companies to halt
or cease practically all of their operations, which was the principal mode of transportation to
Boracay Island.
Due to Boracay being closed down to the public last April 26, 2018, this is when the
number of tourists greatly decreased and led to citizen’s low salaries. However, when Boracay
opened again, tourists' arrival increased. Since Boracay is the most famous tourist attraction here
in the Philippines, even with the pandemic that raised in year 2020, many tourists are still
visiting. With proper requirements and safety guidelines like wearing face masks, observing
social distances and being fully vaccinated, hotel and stay cation houses are now open and safe
by following the health protocols regarding to CoVid- 19. So we assure you that our clients are
in good hands.
