This month’s top grossing acupuncturist is Lori Liu. Lori has successfully com-
pleted several contracts at sea, working on RCI, P&O, Princess and now Celebrity.
Lori is not only the top grossing acupuncturist this month, but on average, one of
the top grossing acupuncturists of all time. Lori is both a licensed acupuncturist
and chiropractor. Prior to working on board, Lori ran her own spa in Texas. We
are honored to have Lori working with us again and marvel at her consistent suc-
cess. Great work Lori!

This month we are going to feature several acupuncturists for their outstanding performance on their
first contract. Amy Shiotani on the Emerald, Alexis Hawley on the Jewel of the Seas, Robert Smith on
the CCL Magic, and Xixi Yang on the Triumph have all done a remarkable job on board. Most acu-
puncturists need at least one complete contract before they master working at sea as an acupuncturist.
These acupuncturists however, have distinguished themselves early on and seem to have a gift for this
kind of work. Our hope is that they are considering another contract-they will all certainly be provided
competitive options!

Resolution Revolution
Make it count. New Year’s resolutions are a commitment a person makes to achieve goals. This article is intended to
provide a fresh start not only for reaching professional goals but personal ones as well. Often, they are intertwined.
Take responsibility to revolutionize how you attain yours.

We open the flash report. Its columns are blank. We are going to put numbers and words on. This flash report is called
“Opportunity”. Its first report in 2012 is New Year’s Day. Then tomorrow, this week, this cruise, this month, this year… It
represents more than numbers and words. It measures accomplishments. It may also relate to personal dreams and
perceived limitations.

Happiness and confidence are built on accomplishments. We get there by achieving goals and targets. Where many
make resolutions, most will fail. Those who succeed set goals, put them in writing, and share with others. They also
share the path of how they maintain their resolutions.

Goal setting involves establishing specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time targeted goals. It is an effective to
help work towards professional (targets) and personal (your choice) ones. Written goals provide a sense of direction
and purpose. It is our compass and chart to sail in the direction of our dreams. They capitalize on our brain’s amazing
powers for problem solving and achieving goals. Don’t delude yourself by saying that, “I’ll just do better” achieves tar-
gets.

Example, 7 day cruise target is $7,000. $7,000 = $5600 in services + $1400 in home care. $5600/ $150 is 27 treat-
ments. $1400/ $95 Jou = 15 bottles of Jou. Or, $1,000 average per day with $800 services and $200 home care.
$1,000/ $150 treatment = 7 treatments per day. $200 home care = 2 Jou Herbs or $175 Herbal Bath Synergy + $52 Ins
Ref Gel. Calculate by how many days per cruise. Incorporate your favorite Elemis/Bliss/Phyto home care as well.

Create a Business Book for 2012 to document and maintain professional and personal resolutions and dreams. Write
your goals and how to achieve them. Some will be measurable like achieving cruise targets or how many cross promo-
tions you give each day. Need 3 treatments embark night + $200 home care. Others may seem intangible but may also
be documented. Example, “I met with fitness to discuss how to xp for selling detox” or “meet new CD”.

Goals for professional and personal goals must answer 5 “W” questions:
What: What do I want to accomplish?
Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.
Who: Who is involved?
Where: Identify a location.
Which: Identify requirements and constraints to creating a foundation for success

We have amazing opportunities in countless ways on ships. Achieving cruise targets remind us of attaining professional and personal goals. They
represent our commitment to Steiner and to you. We have the ability to redefine ourselves each embark, seminar, and treatment plan. You already

Why use the Detox Program?

I finished my 2nd contract in October 2011 on CCL Valor and since I started on this passionate adventure in
January 2010 it has been a pleasure to work with Steiner.

Before I start writing about the Detox Program I would like to say thank you to Dan, Martin, Lisa, Stephanie
and Angie for all the support given during the entire duration of the contract.

In 1998 I started studying Naturopathy, which I studied for 4 years. After that I started my 2nd course in Chi-
nese Medicine and Acupuncture which lasted for 5 years.

My 1st course gave me a strong base about western Phototherapy; this is the reason it's so important to me to
complement Acupuncture treatments with Chinese Herbs and the Detox Program.

Basically, detoxification means cleaning the blood. It does this mainly by removing impurities from the blood
in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys,
intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. However, when this system is compromised, impurities aren't properly fil-
tered and every cell in the body is adversely affected.

We have a variety of programs and products for detox on market, but our Cellular Detox Program is a high

Lisa has asked me to write an article, and she also knows that I have many struggling cruises with much stress from not hav-
ing enough patients. But I try my best to share what I believe is working for me to result good numbers at the end.

My first ever cruise, of course I didn’t know what I was doing, yet I did $10k/10day. Thinking back from that point to
now what I may have done right to produce good results. So, here is what I think. I’m selling myself by being (or act if I’m
having a bad day) a nice and friendly person which include ALWAYS SMILE, Good energy, nice comfortable tone of voice,
professional attitude, good listener, nodding and understanding their sufferings, be on time, try best to explain with pas-
sion (even I still struggle with English sometimes), firm on the attitude that I can help them yet decision is not mine but up
to them to get better (so that they WANT to instead of me pushing), clean & good hygiene, look my best with proper
make up and hair, ……….all the basics. They have to like and trust me that I can deliver good result.

And once they like me and treatment results are great, it is very easy to retail. They will respect me as if I was god to help
them out of misery, and they will listen to my directions. If they have financial difficulties to buy products, I encourage to
stretch $ as much as they can by telling something like “Susan, I know YOUR health is the most important thing in YOUR
life, and imagine what YOU can be doing if YOU are healthier………” It is all about them. But here I am not just saying
these lines, and I truly wish to help them to get them healthier, so I get passionate about it naturally. Good Salesman book
may suggest “First No is not a NO and start the sales from then” but after I get NO with their good reasoning (true or not),
I don’t push much.

I do have slow cruises, and not many bookings for days. Sometimes I get 8 to 10 people sign up for consultation from the
embarkation, and only 2 showed up and end up with no booking at all for days. Then what do I do????? I read some materi-
als in the computer to feed my brain maybe. And you may think I am crazy but I practice “The law of attraction”. Another
word, I spread good energy around me even the inside of me is extremely stressed. Also image training of “Golden life that
everything comes easy” is expected. And if that does not work, I go enjoy the shore to change the pattern, and break the
energy around me since maybe it is stagnated. After all, we are all made out of energy. I try to cast my brightest light so
that more goods will come approach me naturally. Well, that is my personal believes but if you could tap into this power,
you will be amazed how things work. Next thing you know, people will be calling SPA line for consultation and bookings.
Success Note (Cont.)

Another important thing for the slow cruises is the “CROSS PROMOTION”. Discuss with your manager and team. Luck-
ily I have a great people around me, and I can’t thank them enough since they are helping me tremendously. Getting 1
good patient can bring you $1000+ docket.

How I sell DETOX packages. Since running 2 treatment rooms takes time, and I don’t have much time to explain to them,
so I print out “When was the last time you detox your body” article, and staple that with Internal Capsule hand out, and
take about 1 minute to explain about detox and say “Take a look at this. This may benefit you. Since we don’t have much
time today, we can talk about this at the next treatment”. Basically plant a seed. Usually 1 out of 8 people get some inter-
est. Then I try to set up extra time (about 10 min) other than their treatment time to explain so that they can understand
the benefit.

When I do any seminar or explaining about the products, I explain as if their understanding is the level of junior high school
because 1st of all (not to be proud of but…..) I am just not good in explaining, and 2nd, I get tired when people try to sell
me something and spend too much time and details. So, if people are interested, they will ask questions, and I just answer
them. I don’t know if this is the best but this is what I do.

Martin’s Message
Seminar Opening- How and Why

What is the goal of the seminar? What are your focus and your intention of presenting the seminar? You must decide what
you want to accomplish with the seminar and the more specific you can become, the more specific results you will achieve.
As a company we expect a “capture rate” (the number of ‘treatment’ bookings made at the seminar to be 35-50% of those
guests that do attend (consultations should not be counted toward this booking rate.) When you focus on this result you
will be able to treat more guests and in turn change more lives. After all- this is why most, if not all of us got into this
medicine- to help people feel better. We are in the feel better business and people that do attend the seminar want the
treatment. In fact, they want to “feel better now!” It is your job to motivate these guests into taking action to schedule a
treatment and experience the best education about the medicine- which will be in the treatment room.
Your seminar should only be scheduled for a one hour period of time but should only be presented for ~40 minutes.
(Example: advertise 11:15, so you have 15 minutes built in to set up the seminar.) During these 40 minutes you must do
the presentation and schedule the guests for treatments. You need to be prepared to return to the spa directly at the top of
the next hour (ex: 12 noon) for most guests will want to come into their first appointments after the seminars and on sea
days. You need to allow the use of this valuable time to schedule the maximum number of guests each sea day and there-
fore, you need to plan your schedule accordingly. If you decide to take a lunch it is best to do this just after the seminar in
case you run over the allotted time or decide to stay and answer more guests’ specific questions.

-Start a couple moments after the scheduled time to allow as many guests as possible to show up- they
will tend to run late. Have casual conversation and just interact until you start. Don’t get trapped into
treatment questions until you present the seminar.
-Leave any doors open to be able to invite any late guests to join you during the presentation. Be pre-
pared for late comers as they will want the treatment.

Welcome everyone; I’m very excited to present to you about the Acupuncture profession and something that has truly
changed my life! My name is (first and last) and as you can see on the screen I am the Licensed Acupuncturist on board
the beautiful (your ship name.) I actually practice Traditional Chinese Medicine of which Acupuncture is the treatment
you are probably most familiar with. Also included with Acupuncture is Chinese herbal Medicine and a few other aspects,
which I will cover in detail shortly, all together these treatment methods complete this full range medical system that has
been used to treat many health conditions for thousands of years all over the world!
Today’s topic will be (title of today’s seminar- be sure that it is displayed on the screen) of which I will cover an
overview of the medicine and information about the benefits of Acupuncture and the most common treatments available
on board. My treatment rooms are located in the (name of) Spa which is located on (deck number) and the phone
number is located on the bottom of the Conditions Treatment List I have given you.

received to something that will motivate the guests to get treatment from you- today.)
This treatment changed my life so much that I decided to study the medicine. I went to the (school name) that is located
(where) and the program was (how many years) long. That may surprise many of you that acupuncturists actually
study for so many years, as many people think we only attend a weekend seminar.
I have been in private practice for (how many years- I suggest you add the length of your school if you are a
newer graduate) in (location) and currently reside in (location.) My current practice focuses on Pain conditions-
Back, knee and arthritis; Digestive issues like reflux and irritable bowel syndrome; weight management and Internal medi-
cine. I do offer Complimentary Consultations to discuss how acupuncture “will” benefit your specific condition. So please
call the spa and schedule those appointments. I will also be happy to schedule treatments at the end of the seminar so we
can get you feeling better today!
Why is Acupuncture available on cruise ships? Simple, the treatments work! Guests have also demanded the treatments to
not only enhance their cruise experience but to treat long term health conditions that have been brought on vacation with
them. Most people have heard about the amazing treatments for Back Pain, Sciatica, and Arthritis but there are many other
great treatments for issues like Digestive complaints and even Sea Sickness!
Many people will suffer more than one concern listed on the Conditions Treatment List and the best results with the medi-
cine will treat all of your specific health concerns!

Tips:
-You must practice, practice, and practice! The best practice is out loud and in front of a mirror- no one will be harder on
you, than you!
-Pass out the Treatment list at each seminar. This should be your “only” seminar handout. When they want more informa-
tion/education, give it to them in the treatment room. Motivate them to get something they must give something.
-Put your name and credentialing letters after your name on the bottom of the slide.
-Also list below your name: “Licensed Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbal Medicine practitioner”
-We are not presenting a “seminar series.” Use this opening for every seminar. Yes, you have heard this information
about yourself but the guests have not. If you have people that come to each seminar that tells you they “want” the treat-
ment but you have not motivated or told them to book the treatment today!
As stated at the beginning, the goal of the seminar is the results in booking treatments. No matter what your attendance level is, you need to
focus on the results and also understand that if you have 6 people that should lead to 18-30 treatments with proper treatment plans. In addi-
tion these guests will be able to send their friends and family members which will again have a huge impact on your cruise treatment num-
bers. What if you have 20 people in your first seminar? This one seminar should make the results for your entire 7 day cruise! Focus on what
you want- treatment bookings for all seminar attendees.
