OF THE MÖSSBAUER EFFECT, ICAME-2023
It is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the 37th
International Conference on the Applications of the Mössbauer
Effect, ICAME 2023, which will be held in Cartagena de Indias,
Colombia, September 3 - 8, 2023.

The conference is organized by the Colombian Mössbauer


Community which is composed by researchers from different
universities in Colombia. The Chairmans of the conference belong to
Universidad de Antioquia, Universidad del Valle and Universidad
EAFIT. A separate document is given with more information about
the organizing groups.

CARTAGENA DE INDIAS
Named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984, Cartagena de
Indias is an outdoor museum of the Spanish Colonial period. The
city offers visitors the opportunity to walk along its colorful streets
and plazas; discover the history of its churches and mansions,
surrounded by 11 kilometers of colonial city walls, which stand as
the most complete fortifications in South America. It is a City sea
breezes, colorful sunsets and exquisite gastronomy.

Cartagena is known as the “Heroic city” where its history and culture
give visitors a magical experience. The fortifications stand as the
most complete of its kind in South America, an example of the
military architecture of XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries. The city is home
to cultural festivals such as the Cartagena International Music
Festival, going into its 13th edition in 2019. It gathers 230 musicians,
offers 42 concerts in 15 venues throughout the city. Since 11 full
days of magical music are not enough to grace our destination in
January, year after year, there is also the Hay Festival Cartagena de
Indias´ now entering its 14th edition. This festival promotes culture
and social responsibility. Literature, visual arts, cinema, music,
geopolitics, journalism, the environment, all go together with
dialogue and celebration. After twelve years, has become one of the
most important literary events in the Hispanic world.

Cartagena de Indias has the only World Heritage Historic Center certified as sustainable by
ICONTEC. More than 45 institutions public, private, academy and citizens worked together in
order to obtain this certification.

COASTAL PROTECTION

This ambitious project focuses on the recovery and


protection of the coastal front of the city,
generating spaces of approximately 83 hectare that
will allow the implementation, operation and
stability of road infrastructure, as well as a wide
area for the urban renewal of the sector.

SAFETY AND
SECURITY

Security in Colombia has improved significantly since the


recent peace agreements and is now a safer country to
visit. Cartagena de Indias is a safe city for walking. The
tourist police have different offices around the main touristic
areas as well as information points. The city is a popular
tourist destination, it hosts large conferences and present a
low risk for foreign visitors.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

The scientific program will cover the traditional topics of the previous ICAME
conferences. Besides the key lectures, IBAME senior and young awarded
lecturers, invited conferences, and oral and poster presentations, we
are also planning the international school on Mössbauer spectroscopy,
an international forum on the impact of Mössbauer spectroscopy on
the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, we will
promote the women participation, and dedicate a special session for
young researchers, similarly as in ICAME-2019. It is worth mentioning that
the program of the conference will be articulated with several of the
Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations to transform our
world. We are also planning a hybrid type conference which includes both
face to face and virtual conferences.
