SECTION – A
There are FOUR questions in this section. Answer any THREE
All the symbols have their usual meanings.
Assume reasonable values for missing data, if any.

1. (a) An acb sequence balanced 3-phase Y-connected source supplies power to a (17)
balanced, three-phase ∆-connected load with an impedance of 12 + j9Ω per
phase. The source voltage in the b-phase is 240∠-50° V. The line impedance is
1 + j1Ω per phase. (i) Calculate the line currents, (ii) Calculate the phase
voltages at the load terminals.

(b) Two wattmeters are connected to the balanced load supplied by a balanced (18)
source with acb phase sequence such that Vab = 208∠30° V as shown in Fig.
for Q. 1(b). Determine the readings of wattmeters W1 and W2. Also calculate
the total apparent power absorbed by the load.

2. (a) The output of a balanced 3-phase Y-connected positive phase sequence (i.e. (17)
abc) source is 41.6 kVA at a lagging power factor of 0.707. The line voltage at
the source is 240 V. The source is connected to a balanced 3-phase Y-connected
load by a distribution line that has an impedance of 0.04 + j0.03 Ω per phase. (i)
Find the magnitude of the line voltage at the load and (ii) Find the total
complex power at the terminals of the load.

(b) A 3-phase Y-connected motor takes 10 kVA at 0.6 power factor lagging (18)
from a balanced source of 220 V having abc phase sequence. The motor is in
parallel with a balanced delta load having 16 Ω resistance and 12 Ω capacitive
reactance in series in each phase. Find the total power, line current and power
factor of the combination.

3. (a) Sketch the Bode plot of the magnitude and phase for the transfer function (20)

H(ω) =

(b) For the network shown in Fig. for Q. 3(b), find (i) the transfer function H(ω) (15)

= , (ii) the magnitude of H at ω0 = 1 rad/s.
