MakerBot Method X 3D Printer Best Practices

Setup (add printer via IP)

 Ensure printer is connected to ‘Incredible Foods’ WIFI
 Add printer via IP address: 10.1.10.107
 If you can’t connect, export file via USB

General Setting Recommendations

 Chamber Heater Temperature: 50°C - 55°C
 First layer speed: 45 mm/s
 Extruder 1 Temperature: 215°C
 Extruder 2 Temperature: 215°C
 Extruder 2 Idle Temperature: 155°C

Common Issues
Issue What’s Happening Possible Solutions
First layer not adhering properly/ Plastic is not hot enough  Increase chamber temperature
Curling at very beginning Or  Increase extruder temperature
Filament is cooling too  Add raft
quickly  Decrease first layer print speed
 Decrease filament cooling fan
speed (first layer)
Extruder oozing hot plastic Extruder is too hot  Decrease extruder idle
temperature
 Decrease extruder temperature
Layer separation or splitting Poor layer to layer  Decrease layer height
adhesion  Decrease filament cooling fan
speed
Stringy print Filament is leaking as  Increase retraction distance
extruder moves  Decrease extruder temperature
 Increase extruder travel speed
Excessive bubbles form in PVA/ Filament has excess  Replace with new PVA spool if
PVA extruder keeps jamming moisture that turns into a possible
gas bubble when heated  Unload and dry out existing PVA
through extruder, spool
causing a jam
