INTRODUCTION

Republic Act No. 7836 also known as the “Philippine Teachers

Professionalization Act of 1994” is an act to strengthen the regulation and
supervision of the practice of teaching in the Philippines and prescribing a
Licensure Examination for Teachers and for other purposes.

According to the latest statistics from the Commission on Higher

Education (CHED), for every 100 enrollees in teacher education programs in
the Philippines, only 16 will eventually graduate, on the average. On their first
try, only five of these 16 graduates will pass the Licensure Examination for
Teachers (LET), an exam graduates need to take before they can teach in
public schools, given the country’s average national test-taker passing rate of
30%. For the other eleven repeaters, the average gets lower.

The Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) comprises of two parts

for the Elementary Education namely: General Education (40%) and
Professional Education (60%), and three parts for the Secondary Education
namely: General Education (20%), Professional Education (40%), ad
Specialization (40%). For both elementary and secondary, Professional
Education gets the highest percentage needed to pass the BLEPT.

General Education topics include English, Social Science,

Mathematics, Information and Communication Technology, General Science,
and Filipino.
Professional Education topics include Teaching Profession, Social
Dimensions in Education, Principles of Teaching, Educational Technology,
Curriculum Development, Facilitating Learning, Child and Adolescent
Development, and Assessment of Learning.

This “Yellow Book” by Dr. Carl E. Balita, consists of hot LET topics and
past board questions that are most frequently asked in the said board exam.
It is a joint effort by Dr. Carl E. Balita himself and his researchers comprises
mostly of board topnotchers. This includes essential concepts on both General
and Professional Education.

It covers 1000 questions from important competencies of LET and

choices are limited to two only. This strategy will increase retention and will
help the reviewees be familiarized with the topics easier.
