QUESTION 1

Janet invests RM5,300 in a bank that offers 8% simple interest. Find the accumulated amount
and the interest earned in the bank at the end of 4 years 6 months.

QUESTION 2

En Azizi received a 50-day promissory note with a simple interest rate of 6% and the maturity
value is RM7,250. Find the face value of the note using Banker’s Rule.

QUESTION 3

RM2,400 is deposited in an account that offered 6% interest rate compounded every two
months for 5 years. Find the amount of interest obtained.

QUESTION 4

Pn Jamalia made equal payments of RM870 every month for 6 years at 12% interest
compounded monthly to settle her loan. Calculate the amount of the loan taken by Pn Jamalia.

QUESTION 5

The cash price of a machine is RM3,700. On an installment plan, 20% down payment is
required followed by monthly payments for 3 years. If the interest charged is 10% per annum
based on the original balance, calculate the total interest charged.

QUESTION 6

The list price for a bicycle is RM5,600. After deducting the trade discount of 3%, 6% and 25%,
Rifqi paid RMX for a bicycle. Calculate the net price, RMX for a bicycle.

QUESTION 7

Qayyim bought a car that cost RM20,000. He later sold that car with a markup was 30% based
on selling price. Determine the selling price of the car.

QUESTION 8

The cost for an oven is RM70,000. It has an estimated useful life of 10 years with a salvage
value of RM16,000. Compute the accumulated depreciation for the fifth year using straight line
method.

QUESTION 1

a) Pn Noura ordered 200 bottles of hand sanitizers listed at RM7 each and 300 face masks
listed at RM3 each. She received an invoice dated 13th January 2021. The invoice was
offered trade discounts of 14% and 8% and cash discount term of 5/10, 2/20, n/30. The
handling charge is RM100.

i) Determine the single trade discount equivalent to the given chain


discounts.

ii) Find the amount of the payment if she paid the invoice on 26th January
2021.
(5 marks)

b) A dealer bought 20 watches for RM16,000. The operating expenses incurred for the sale
of the watches are 18% based on cost. The dealer makes a 40% net profit based on the
cost. For each watch, determine the:

i) selling price

(6 marks)
ii) breakeven price and maximum markdown percent that could be offered
without incurring any loss.

QUESTION 2

a) Pn Rokiah received a promissory note at 3.2% simple interest rate on 3rd March 2020. The
note will mature on 11th June 2020. After holding the note for 55 days, she discounted the
note at a discount rate of 6% and received proceeds of RM 5,800. Find the term of the note
and maturity value of the note.

(6 marks)

b) Luqman deposited RMZ into a saving account for 9 years. The interest rate offered is 6%
compounded every two months for the first 5 years and 4.2% compounded quarterly for the
rest of the period. If the accumulated amount in the saving account at the end of 9 years is
RM4,780, find the value of RMZ.

c) Wonderland Company wants to sell their lorry which was purchased at RM138,000. The
lorry will depreciate at an annual rate of 20.3%. Using declining balance method, determine
the time taken for the lorry to have a book value of RM35,369.50.

QUESTION 3

a) The cash price for an air purifier is RM8,800. En Ahmad buys the air purifier by paying 20%
down payment and 36 equal monthly payments. If the interest charged is 5% based on
reducing balance (Constant Ratio Formula), calculate

i) the amount of interest charged

(5 marks)
ii) the instalment price

(3 marks)

b) Miss Lisa bought a new car. She made a down payment of RM10,000 and the balance was
borrowed at 12% compounded monthly. She has to pay RM950 every month for 5 years
to settle the loan.

i) Calculate the amount borrowed and the cash price of the car

(6 marks)
ii) Find the amount she has to pay on the seventh payment in order to settle
the outstanding arrears if she fails to pay the first six monthly payments

(6 marks)
