HATs CASE STUDY-PIPELINE
Project Inspection Services of Pipeline PL394 Utilizing Hybrid Acoustic Technology System (HATs)

Objective To identify damage mechanism occurrence on the pipeline.


• 122 corrosion anomalies were found on the riser with 1 critical finding, 1 anomaly (DF-71) with 80.5% metal loss.
• Verification has been conducted on this anomaly using P-Scan UT method.
• The result indicates that the anomaly is within the tolerance of the system in respect to the length, width, location,
orientation and depth.

Project Technical Capability Trial For Detection Of Stress Corrosion Cracking On Vessel M3-931 Utilizing Hats

Client PETRONAS GAS BERHAD Location Project Gas Processing Plant, Kerteh

Objective To identify stress corrosion cracking and their conditional sizes.


• 61 anomalies were found included: 13 external numerous corrosive and crack-like defects and 48 internal numerous
crack-like defects.
• 2 major findings identified, Anomaly D-4 with 44.6 % of metal loss and Anomaly d-36 with 30.8% metal loss. Verification
has been conducted on these anomalies using Visual and UT methods.
• The result indicates that the anomalies detected are within the tolerance of the system.

HATs CASE STUDY - TANK
Project Inspection services of tank inspection utilizing HATs at MLNG

Client MALAYSIA LNG GROUP OF COMPANIES Location Project MLNG Plant, Sarawak

Objective To identify damage mechanism occurrence on the tank including its roof, shell & bottom.
• 102 external anomalies (LML) were detected on tank’s elements, included: 45 anomalies on the shell, 26 anomalies on the
bottom, 4 anomalies on the annular plate and 26 anomalies on the roof.
• 3 major anomalies were identified to have 40-50% of metal loss. Verification has been conducted at these anomalies
located at the tank roof (DR-12) by using A-Scan and C-Scan UT.

STRUCTURE (CAISSON)
Project Inspection Services of Caisson ME-4800B (C6) Utilizing Hybrid Acoustic Technology System (HATs)

Client REPSOL OIL AND GAS MALAYSIA LIMITED Location Project Bunga Raya-Echo Platform (BR-E)

Objective To identify damage mechanism occurrence on the caisson.


• 35 corrosion anomalies were detected and 4 major findings identified where metal loss are more than 20%: DF-1
(22.5%), DF-11 (59.5%), DF-14 (40%) and DF-15 (35%).
• All four anomalies were verified using Visual and UT methods. DF-11 was found with estimated 60% metal loss by UT
measurement (and as was determined by HATs). No corrosion were visually seen from external surface.
• The result indicates that all anomalies are within the tolerance of the system.

Project HATs Inspection Qualification On 10” Pigging Test Loop Facility

Objective To conduct HATs performance assessment includes, POD, POI and dimension tolerance.
• A total 91 defects with more than 10% metal loss were fabricated on the test spool via reverse CP method.
• HATs inspection was conducted to identify all the defects with tolerance detailed as below;

MMM CASE STUDY - VALVE

Objective To determine SCZs area on the valve body utilizing Stress Measurement method
• Conducted on 8 choke valves & 9 Diverter valves at Header area.
• MMM findings, 6 valves out of 17 units found with Stress Concentration Zones

UNDERGROUND PIPING
Project Provision Of NCMD for detecting localised anomalies on portable water supply network for utility pipeline

• To determine high SCZs area on the pipeline utilizing Non-Contacting Magnetometric Diagnostic (NCMD)
Objective
• To verify the findings with visual inspection, CMMM and UTFD on the selected anomaly
• DV program was conducted for 1 anomaly location which is anomaly 6.
• External corrosion was occured in position 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock
(range 70mm-800mm). Metal loss approximately up to 4 mm.
• 21 anomalies found using CMMM on the pipe body and 45 anomalies detected
from CMMM assessment.
• No significant volumetric anomalies were found utilizing UTFD technique.

Project CMMM for Aboveground Insulated Piping at Tanjung Sulong Export Terminal

• To determine the area of concern which are prone to have potential failures due to existing Stress Concentration Zones
Objective (SCZs)
• To determine the highest SCZs which need to be further verified using other conventional NDT techniques.

• From the assessment, CMMM inspection shows 154 anomalies were found at insulated piping and verified by visual
inspection, UT Fllaw, UT thickness and Hardness Measurement. The result as per below:-

Project Provision Of Metal Magnetic Memory (MMM) For Weldment Inspection on Piggable Buried Pipeline

Contractor MedcoEnergi E&P Malaka, Acheh Timur Location Project Alur Siwah Central Processing Station (CPP)

• To determine the SCZs area exist on the weldment of 12inch gas pipeline
Objective
• To validate the selected SCZs using volumetric inspection technology such as UTFD and hardness testing
• CMMM was conducted on 5 welded joint in different locations. 36 anomalies were detected by CMMM and 13 selected
anomalies were conducted by UTM & UTFD for validation. CAT I : 6 anomalied were verified (Anomaly 2, 13,16,20,22 and
23), CAT II: 4 anomalies were verified (Anomaly 4, 9, 15 and 18), CAT III: 3 anomalies were verified (Anomaly 14,17 and
25)
• 4 welded joint were verified using UTFD:- WJ42 (Anomaly 16,17,18,20,22 & 23), WJ11A (Anomaly 9, 13,14 & 15), WJ16
(Anomaly 2 & 4), WJ64 (Anomaly 25). From 8 anomalies out of 13 anomalies are Incomplete Fusion (IF).

Objective • To determine the area of concern which are prone to have potential failures due to existing SCZs on Flare Stack S-803

• CMMM inspection were indicated that 35 anomalies were detected. CAT I:10 anomalies, CAT II: 13 anomalies, CAT III: 7
anomalies & CAT IV: 5 anomalies.
• 2 anomalies was found correlated with visual finding

MMM CASE STUDY – PRESSURE VESSEL

• To asses the integrity of pressure vessel utilizing MMM,visual, thermography inspection.


Objective
• To determine the high SCZs area on the shell, top and bottom of insulated pressure vessel.
• CMMM were detected 4 anomalies at Section 1 fall under CAT I. CAT II: 2 anomalies were detected in section 9. CAT III: 14
anomalies were found.
• Thermography results, the insulated vessle was in satisfactory condition. Gradient of temperature was detected on bottom
and middle support ring suggesting higher humidity on that area relative to others.

•To determine critical stress concentration zones (SCZs) area on the parent metal utilizing Stress Measurement method.
Objective •To conduct stress relief treatment on the critical SCZs location using Ultrasonic Peening.
•To determine the effectiveness of Ultrasonic Peening in reducing the critical SCZs location.
• UPS successfully to reduce stress concentration zone areas up to 80% on parent metal.

Project Provision Of HVIT for Pressure Safety Valve PSV P802C

• To determine SCZs area on the valve body utilizing Stress Measurement Method
Objective
• To determine the internal condition of the valve by utilizing Valve Passing Testing
• HVIT sucessfully identified the significant findings of SCZs area and passing condition with an insignificant leak of 0.5 l/min.
