The branch of chemistry concerned with the rates of chemical reactions is called chemical kinetics. The term ‘kinetics’ implies motion and comes from the ancient Greek word for movement, kinesis, We can use the information obtained from the study of chemical kinetics to: understand the body's metabolism (the chemical processes in the body) model the effects of pollutants in the Earth’s atmosphere develop new catalysts, which is of great importance to the chemical industry.
