I've heard this, or something similar, a time or two

over my 71 years.
Here's what worked for me. Don’t argue with

them. It doesn't do any good.
Agree with them.
“You’re annoying.”
“I’m sure you think I am.”
Then walk away.

Well, are you annoying?
This isn’t an insult. I hang out with a few

improvisers who also do stand up comedy. They
pride themselves on their ability to be extremely
annoying. When I say this to one of them, and I do
say it if only as an observation, they thank me
nicely.
I, on the other hand, prefer not to annoy people.

So if someone thought I was annoying, I’d want to
know why.
Now, there was a time when someone said I was

annoying because I spoke up for myself and
didn’t defer to people (including him) who

If you can pull it off, I'd try and act like it's the
greatest compliment in the world. If you don't get
upset, they'll get angry that their attempts to put
you down, aren't showing results. Otherwise I'd
just ignore them. I mean hard core ignore as in
they don't exist; you can't hear them, you can't
see them.

Then I will become more annoying to you. Trust
me. She actually do that. I decided to never say
stuff like that anymore. You can respond to them
by saying, yeah I kinda know I am annoying. That
will shut them up. Or you can be a little sarcasm.
The world has turn less brighter for someone, it
seems. Other than that, you can be extra
annoying like my friend. True friend will
understand. Not true friend will leave you instead.

If I were you, and it was unintentional, I would say,

“Oh , I didn’t know that. can you please tell me
what I am doing that is making me annoying?”
That way you can learn and other people will not
say that to you in the future.
Retaliating with a smart remark will get you

nothing and not improve your personality because
they you will be both annoying AND a smart ass.

I would tell them to leave then. You don’t have to

be around someone you don’t like. So if they think
you're annoying then that's their loss and they
can leave.
